Just fyi: there is a mix of fact and opinion in this piece. So do not take all of it as “fact.” Also, it is undated, and given some of the information in it, I wonder if it is currently relevent. It might be, but I suspect it is “old.” Kimberly might have a better idea than I do.
Hi Stacy,
I wrote a relatively long email about this article, and somehow lost it.
This one will be short.
The person who wrote this article is a medical technologist or medical technician. She is as qualified to write an article like this as I am. And I am not at all qualified.
She worked in a lab, she had Graves’. That’s about it. There is misinformation in this article. Some of it would be absolutely contraindicated and/or harmful in the treatment of Graves’.There are not references, it is far from academic. It is not dated.
If you look at the side bar, there is further evidence which shows that this not a very respectable reference source.
ShirleyHi all – I removed the above link, as is does not meet the guidelines for posting web links on this site. For more information, you can review the “New User? Read This First!” thread in the announcements section at the top of the forum.
In summary, links posted here need to come from credible medical organizations or associations.
I am actually familiar with the person who set up that site. He claimed that Graves’ was due to a “nutritional imbalance” and could be cured by taking a special vitamin. However, if you go to the home page of that particular site, you will find that it has not been updated since 2005, and that there is a giant disclaimer in red at the top that says, “Read this!! The information on this site is for experimental purposes only. There is no scientific proof that thyroid disease can be corrected nutritionally. The editor of this site is not a doctor and has no formal medical training. What works for one person may be dangerous for another.”
This makes me wonder how many people were harmed by following his advice.
UPDATE: Looks like Shirley and I were posting at the same time! Just to clarify, the person who set up that site is not the same person who wrote the article. Either way, this forum does have more stringent guidelines related to links than other unmoderated sites do, and we respectfully ask that posters honor those guidelines.
Sorry..wont happen again.
Shirley, what specifically is bad and.dangerous.in that article? Just wondering so I know because I was under the impression Elaine Moore was well respected. Its good to know there’s another opinion out there.
When I have the time to review it carefully, I’ll PM you with some thoughts.
Well respected is a broad and general term, I think, and from a valid and scientific view, she does not fill the academic standards. But she writes well, and is easy to read, which people like, and that is easy to understand.
