Has anyone "ever" had this symptom with GD? I’ve been breaking out on my elbows with little red bumps, they look like hives, they itch for a little while, will stay about 2 mos. and then go away and come back. I’ve had some lesions on my face too about the size of a dime that come up in the very same place and have over the last 3-5 yrs. I’ve been to the dermatologist and they’ve biopsied the one on my face 4 yrs. ago and it came back POSITIVE LUPUS (with leukocyte hyperplasia), so the derm. ran an ANA, etc. and everything else came back NEGATIVE! YEAH! Finally 6 mos. ago the same dermatolgist took a biopsy of the area on my elbows (that come and go too) and it came back with "leukocyte hyperplasia", basically the same diagonosis I had on my face a few yrs. back. Has anyone had any type of skin disorder that seems to be relavant to what I’ve experienced. These areas look like hives, feel like hives, come and go, etc.?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. My TED dr. says he believes it could possibly be from having an autoimmune disorder, but there’s no cream, nothing that anyone has given me that works!! Insight and some comforting words from ANYONE that has had similar skin symptoms would certainly make me feel so much better. THANKS!!

    Hi, Sue:

I’ve never heard of this condition being associated with Graves disease. While it might be possible for someone else with Graves to have developed this condition — coincidences do happen — if it were a condition associated closely with Graves, it would be listed in some of the books about GD.

My closest friend was diagnosed with the discoid (skin) form of lupus, and there were creams that helped somewhat. She, too, showed negative for the more systemic form of lupus. She was told to avoid sunlight, which apparently makes the condition worse. So she wears sunscreen and long-sleeves. I don’t know if this information will help you, though.

Interesting Bobbi and it does b/c the sun does cause me to break out more often. Do you know if her lesions "itch"??

I cannot ask her about the itching: she went into the Peace Corps two months ago, and is somewhere in the back of beyond without power, running water or other conveniences. I do know that the creams combined with eliminating (as much as possible) sun exposure got rid of the lesions.

    Sue,

Look at the definition of leukocyte hyperplasia

leukocyte- white blood Cells that defend the body against invaders (this is the easy version of it lol).
hyperplasia – referring to cell growth within an organ that doesn’t normally stay there or shouldn’t be there.

This term "leukocyte hyperplasia" in my book is nonsense. It’s not a diagnosis it’s a very very general term they use. The fact that you say the said it was positive for Lupus should be further explored. So what if the ANA doesn’t come up postiive, ANA shows if you have inflammation so you might not have any right now. Doesn’t mean you dont’ have lupus.

You might want a referral to a Rheumatologist for such tests for Lupus. Just to be on the safe side.

    Have you tried Hydrocortizone ointment?
Have you been tested for allergies?
    Do they ooze yellow liquid?
When they are itchy and you do scratch them do they "flare" up ?
Do they have white caps or white scabs on them?
