    Hello 1972,

These are pretty common symptoms, and they can be caused by a variety of things. Hyperthyroidism causes “muscle wasting,” especially in the large muscles of the upper legs, upper arms and torso, and that can lead to some symptoms you describe. Getting the hyperthyroidism under control with Tapazole can also lead to hypothyroid periods, and that could also be responsible for your symptoms. Get your thyroid levels checked to make sure which end of the spectrum you’re dealing with.

As an aside, it’s possible that even if you have normal levels of thyroid hormone, you may still be feeling the effects of having been hyperthyroid earlier in the year. The muscle mass returns once our levels are brought under control, but it is “baby” muscle that must be carefully restrengthened to get you back where you were before you were ill.

Then again, it could be completely unrelated. :-) Big help, aren’t I? It’s time to talk with the doctor and narrow it down.

Hoping you are feeling better soon!

Thank you for the information. I have an appointment with my endo in February. I will bring it up then. Any ideas about how I can reduce the symptoms in the meantime? Thanks again.

I was diagnosed with Grave’s disease in March of 2004. I have been being treated with Tapazole since then. Recently, I have been experiencing strange symptoms involving my legs. They ache a lot and sometimes, my knees seem to “buckle” when I am standing. Also, they tend to jerk as I am getting ready to fall asleep. I was wondering if this may be Grave’s related. Has anyone else had these symptoms?
