Just in the last 5 days I am having muscle cramps that linger all day, It’s worst in the morning when I get up. Is this part of Graves? What can I do to make it go away or make it feel better?

    Thanks
    Liza

My son had really bad leg cramps, they are obviously connected to hyperthyroidism. His doctor recommended to take magnesium and it was helpful. It seems the cramps go away when hormones come to normal level.

Cramps can come from hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism ~ and of course, the classic lack of potassium. Best thing to do is keep track of your thyroid hormone levels, and after that make sure you are hydrated and have adequate potassium. When your thyroid hormone levels are out-of-whack, you can still minimize the cramping with hydration and adequate potassium. As levels normalize and stabilize, the cramping should go away.

After being on Methimazole for about five months I began experiencing horrible cramping in my legs, biceps, neck and worst of all, booty! I talked to my endo about it and he changed my dose of Methz. and I’ve had no problems since. Talk to your endo about it, mine also had some magnesium/potassium tests ran during my bloodwork to make sure that was okay.
