Hi all!
Just looking to see if anyone else has had issues w/ kidney (mostly stones)? My endo has been looking to see if there is a connection with the issues I have. He has tested me for a few things but came up w/ nothing so far.
Rai in ’99 w/ meds never being fully ‘on’ for very long. ’02 started the kidney stones. I make & pass them often. Also calcium deposits in other parts of my body. Before I was even 30, I was told I had the early onset of osteoporosis (not looked into after that)
There are so many things that could cause this, but my question is (while waiting to see if there is a ‘link’ between GD & this calcium stuff)….anyone else w/ these calcium extras? LoL
Thanks!!!
I have kidney stones. First discovered stones last June. 3 ESWL (lithotripsies) later still trying to get rid of them completely. Battling a 4mm currently trying to pass. 9mm in other kidney will have to have another ESWL later this summer. These are same stones as last year not new ones – they were so large when urologist found them, she said they had probably been there 2 years or so. D/x with GD Feb 21 of this year. I am told by both urologist and endo that there is no connection, but I’m not convinced. My stones are also garden variety (as my dr calls them) i.e. calcium oxolate. I don’t appear to have other calcium issues that I am aware of though I do have a severe Vitamin D deficiancy that is currently being treated with high does Vit D for a few months. It was that dr (rheumotologist) that found my low TSH and eventually led to GD dx by other dr.
I read somewhere that kidney stones could be associate with parathyroidism but it was speculation and parathyroidism isn’t necessarily connected to GD. Would love to hear if you or your dr turn up any connection.
Hi there! I’m sorry for your battle w/ kidney stones! They are NOT my fav thing! LoL
I cant even count how many stones I have passed since 2002. Last CT scan I had roughly 26ish (Total for both kidneys).
I have read about the parathyroid thing & it did say that there are ppl (very low %) that had RAI also had an issue w/ hyperparathyroid. When I read this I was excited b/c it would explain A LOT! Infact, that would fit perfectly w/ everything I have going on…BUT, lol my calcium is normal. It also states it is found years after they had RAI. Its been only since ’99 for me.I was hoping that was an answer b/c my dr thinks there has to be a connection w/ my issues. I just tell him that I am an overachiever..haha
I FINALLY found a good urologist & he wants to blast a few of my stones, but due to my hubbys company switching insh AGAIN, the hosp does not accept the new insh so back to square 1! Same w/ my endo, but I am fighting them on that 1! :o)
I see my family dr wed & discuss where my endo left off. Maybe new eyes has some ideas. I will post back if I hear anything interesting!
Thanks for your reply! Its kinda nice to know I’m not the only 1 :o)26 stones??!! Oh my goodness! You poor thing! I wish I had some good words of encouragement for you. I hope your insurance works out soon. The ESWL is VERY expensive (especially if you have in both kidneys). I realize that I really take my situation for granted and am very grateful for my company’s insurance right now – between a major shoulder surgery, kidney stones and Graves Disease all in the last 18 months, they are spending an awful lot on me….
Keep me posted!
