Wow, didn’t know about Sammy The Bull Gravano! The Foundation occasionally receives messages from people who are either in prison or have family members in prison, and they do have access to specialists who can provide treatment. (Although usually, if the Foundation receives a message, it’s because there is concern that the treatment might not be adequate/appropriate).

@Kimberly, if you have ever seen the VH1 show, “Mob Wives,” Karen Gravano is on there and does not speak of her father’s illness.

However, when I read the book, it was very sad that he has gotten so ill with Graves’. She writes he does not look like the same person. He had lost most of his hair, so shaved the rest off. Also had a problem with parathyroids and lost his calcium. His teeth are very bad and has lost most of them. He is very thin now and wears glasses all the time.

When she took her daughter, Karina, to see her grandfather, she said: “Grandpa looks like Elmer Fudd.” If you google his name, you might be able to view some photos of him now.

I snorkeled with turtles in Barbados last November. It was amazing.

I’m not interested in keeping turtles as pets, though. I’m happy with my cat.

@Karen – I’ve seen previews for that show, but haven’t watched it. My one TV guilty pleasure is “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”. I can feel my brain cells dying off as I watch, but I can’t help it. :)

@emmtee – WOW, that’s a great picture. I’ve been snorkeling twice in Hawaii, but the pics from my cheap disposable underwater camera didn’t look anything like that!

I’m wondering if he had the RAI treatment? Could be the parathyroid and salivary glands were affected …

So sad.

Beautiful pic, emmtee! I snorkeled in Hawaii, but the turtles were too fast for my camera. They look like slow creatures, but they’re not!

I’m glad you brought up your cat. Cats insist on representation! :D
I have 4 cats. A brother & sister pair of tuxedo kitties, and then a year ago I adopted my dear friend’s kitties when he passed away. I don’t think I’ll ever catch up with all the fur in the house! They all have such unique personalities, and both of the boy cats sleep with me. I get too hot at night sometimes and have to kick them off the bed. :)

Thanks! I had seen other peoples’ photos of sea turtles on another bulletin board, and really wanted to get some pics of my own. I couldn’t afford a new camera, but I read about a waterproof bag made for cameras called a “DicaPac.” I remembered that my regular camera (not waterproof) had an “underwater” setting. I think the water filters out some of the light spectrum, and the underwater setting corrects the color.

This was my first time snorkeling, and I never got very comfortable with it. Also, I was so blind without my glasses, I had a tough time getting pictures. Most of the time, I was aiming in the general direction of the blurry swimming thing and pressing the button. ;) I really only got a few good turtle pictures. Next time I go snorkeling, I want to get my own good quality snorkel that fits my mouth and a mask with my glasses prescription.

I only have one cat, and she’s my baby. I volunteer at the local animal shelter, though, so she’ll have an adopted sister or brother eventually. She’s not crazy about other animals, but I fostered some kittens last summer, and she eventually learned to like them.

OK, time to dust off our “off topic” thread and see if we can add a bit of levity here…

Have you heard a good joke lately? Are you doing something fun this weekend? Did you just finish a great book? Would you like to share a favorite pet story? (I know that we have both dog lovers and turtle lovers here).

Feel free to post any/all comments here – but please (1) adhere to the Board’s main guidelines, (2) keep it “family friendly”, and (3) be careful with disclosing any details that could be used to personally identify you!

I picked up the first 3 “Eragon” books in a bundle, plus the fourth book, for my Kindle.

After about the first 15%, I wasn’t super impressed. I thought the story “borrowed” too much from other fantasy authors…and I found the writing style to be rather forced. Given that the author started the series when he was 15, I was hoping it would get better.

Plus, I felt like the prologue was awfully short and that I had been thrown clueless right into the middle of a story. It turns out I *had*, as I discovered that I had mistakenly started with the *fourth* book instead of the 3-book bundle. 😡 I love my Kindle, but that’s not a problem I’ve ever had reading *actual* books!

Now I’ve started back at the beginning, but I already know a bunch of stuff that’s going to happen in the first 3 books from reading the first part of Book 4. Grrrr….

A little horse tale for you- just for fun! For the first time since starting on Tapazole over two months ago, I had the energy and strength to ride my dear horse today. (He has been patiently waiting with me, for this day to come.) He remembered everything, was a perfect gentleman, and didn’t drop me, as I had requested him not to, please. Having been a ballet dancer in a previous life, I always ask him to conclude every ride together, with a “reverence” with me. It’s the bow, that a ballerina performs with her partner, at the end of a performance. Picture this – my pretty black horse stretches out into a beautiful, proud, up-headed pose, then lifts and curls a foreleg, lowering his head, as I do a “reverence” beside him. Sooo sweet! It always makes me smile – hope our little off-the-topic offering today has made you all smile, too!

PS: My unending thanks to each and every one of you who has supported me with your help and encouragement. You are so right – staying positive, and patient, and letting some time go by, has surely been the key, *for me at least – (but, gee, I seem to have got back ON topic again!!!)
* Edited to reflect my own personal experience …. hope everyone else’s is even better!

Thanks for the nice uplifting stories! I can recommend two good books Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell and American Sniper by Chris Kyle. I am a SEALs, FBI, CIA enthusiast. Those two books are true stories, when I get down in the dumps and feel sorry for myself, after reading those books-it gives me a new perspective.
