Does anyone think it is possible to have the antibodies for both graves and hashimoto’s autoimmune issues causing a tug of war or rollercoaster effect ?
Yes. It is called Hashitoxicosis. I will try to get a better explanation at the conference. Most of the inforation when you Google it is not necessarily from reliable sources.
Take care,
Hashitoxicosis. YES, this is a good topic for discussion at the conference. If it is of concern to you, talk to your Dr. about testing for TPO antibodies or any other testing he may deem necessary to determine if your are dealing with more than one condition. I had the TPO test done earlier this year with a very low result (lower is better). I have a close family member with Hashi’s who’s level was off the map, this family member is hypothyroid and his Dr. said that he would probably become even more hypothyroid as time goes on. The TPO antibodies can be very destructive to the gland. With both antibodies at play, it could indeed be quite the roller coaster ride. Hope to learn more about this at the conference.
"Roller Coaster Ride" is an understatement…and I have been doing my best to be a good sport about this for the past 2 years. My antibodies were off the charts on both the TPO and TSI when first diagnosed in fall of 2007. A year later they were down approximately 50%- yet still very high. I have been reluctant to get RAI due to my fear that I may still feel lousy, or worse. But I am so tired of not feeling well. Presently off anti-thyroid medication because my TSH is at the high end of "normal" ("normal–according to age old guidelines) and even though my TSH is in normal range I feel I go from hypo – to hyper at rocket speed. My racing heart complaints finally got me a low dose beta-blocker last month—which makes me even more fatigued. SO……any information you can glean from the upcoming conference will be so appreciated…..looking forward to hearing what you learn. Thank you.
