Hi! You can do a Search on this site by typing in “iron” and find several good articles about taking Synthroid on an empty stomach and try not to eat 30-45 mins. Minerals – iron, calcium – can interfere with absorption. I found an article written by Ski in 2004 on this. Joy in SoGA

    Hi,

I take my synthroid one hour before eating in the morning and 4 hours before my multi-vitamin, as I know iron and calcium interfere with absorption….however, what about iron fortified cereals? Some weeks I’ll eat a large bowl of rice krispies (2 servings so 100% of my iron), while some weeks I just eat fruit for breakfast….could this be messing up my absorptions? My levels sway back and forth and I cannot seem to get by tsh stable…could this be the problem?

    Thanks,

    Z

Awhile back, for breakfast, I would have an english muffin with a soy (sausage-type) patty along with some cheese. I would drink calcium fortified orange juice. I was waiting at least an hour (sometime 1 1/2 hours) after taking Levoxyl to eat breakfast. One day I realized that the sausage patty was made out of soy and calcium was in my orange juice. I stopped both and I felt better. For me, waiting the hour wasn’t enough. I noticed a difference for the better when I stopped. It could have been coincidence but for me it seemed to make a difference to change what I was having for breakfast.
