Hi all – The Foundation is currently looking for volunteers in several areas.
Note: The GDATF does recommend that patients wait until they have selected a treatment option and found their “new normal” before tackling any type of volunteer project. These projects do take time and energy (and sometimes involve some stress), and it’s always important to take care of YOURSELF first!
Message Board Facilitators – Share your personal knowledge and experience with fellow forum members. Facilitators can log in on a specific day of the week…or just whenever they happen to have a few moments. Facilitators must agree to abide by and enforce the guidelines posted in the announcements section of the forum.
Support Group Leaders – Volunteer support group leaders secure meeting space, book speakers, publicize the meetings, communicate with current and potential members, and facilitate the conversation during the meetings. Support group leaders are encouraged to have a local MD as a resource, as well as a co-leader, if possible. Support group leaders must complete a phone interview, written application, online training, and a signed agreement with the GDATF.
Local Event/Fundraising Organizers – Spearhead a local event to raise funds and/or awareness for the GDATF! Past fundraisers have included bike rides, motorcycle rides, bowling nights, poetry slams, dinners, bake sales, and a “challenge day” at an outdoor resort. Please check with the GDATF prior to organizing an event, as state laws might prevent certain types of fundraising events.
