Connie, so sorry to hear about your little man. ((((((((((((((((((((DS11))))))))))))))))))))))) I can’t inturprept the test scores but I will say that I don’t think that a TSH 0.01 is good.
I know some will ask that you put the ranges of the tests as well on here and is this all they tested for ?
What are his symptoms?There is another woman on here that just started to post she has three kids two are a set of twins but if i recall correctly her oldest has graves disease. Hopefully she will see this and be able to post some support for you as well.
If you dont have ranges call the dr’s office and ask them what it is. Make sure you keep a log of all lab reports. I keep an excel spreadsheet of all my labs (thyroid and anything that might be out of range just so I have it) but i also have all copies just in case.
Gentle hugs to your baby boy!
His TSH is 0.00 (0.4-4.4 is Normal), T4 is normal , T3 was high, That is all I know so far. The scan is and Uptake scan. They said that he had to take a pill and then have a scan done and then take another scan the next day. I think it is called the uptake scan.
They did tell me that he has hyperthyroidism but that was all.Without a scan, that’s all they know. The scan gives them an idea of HOW the thyroid is overproducing, whether it’s coming from one spot (a nodule), or spread across the whole gland, or something else. It’s not a damaging pill, it’s just a diagnostic tool so they can observe the pattern of uptake in his thyroid.
We really can’t make specific comment about test results ~ it’s good advice to make sure you receive copies of all his lab results, so you can start to learn about them and what they mean, see how they progress, and also so that you always have data for the next doctor (just in case).
Let us know how it turns out!
My son is 11 yrs old. I have been told that he’s thyroid is not working properly. Here are his test results.
TSH= 0.01, T4 = normal , T3 = 5.4
They are wanting to do a upscan on him? I was wondering if anyone could tell me what these numbers might mean.
Thank you so much. From a worried mom. ConniePlease also remember that he will start puberty soon(i have a 14 yr old son, although not a graves patient, I know how boys are). He will start in his selfish phase. Please make sure that your stay focused on keeping him healthy but also remind yourself every now and again that being selfish at this stage is normal and he will develope into the proud young man you want as long as you stay consistent and don’t melt when he gives you those eyes or the "i hate you look" lol.
It’s so hard to be a boy and then to boot have to deal with graves. Hugs to him and to you ! Keep up your health as well. An unhealthy mommy is not good for taking care of any child. (i have found this out often enough to know lol).
Hello Connie,
I would like to say hello, and let you know that you are not alone in this. I myself have an 11 year old that has Graves, although he isn’t actually having to take meds at this time. I would like to give you some advice about dealing with this in your son. Please do alot of reading about this it will help you find the answers, weather on the internet or books. There are alot out there. Please don’t just rely on your doctor, as sometimes they don’t make the best choices for us. Then please make sure that your son knows what is going on, and how he can help to make things better, such as what he should be eating, and when he should take his meds, maybe have him write in a journal what he is feeling. This helps when your trying to manage meds sometimes. Make sure he knows that when starting on his meds he tells you if he has a sore throat….very important, so you can call the doc if that happens. Your not treating you and it will make this disease alot harder to manage since you can’t tell what is going on. I hope and pray that you will be one of the lucky moms that ends up with thyroiditis or something instead of Graves. Watch the eyes in your son, as well as his neck, if they appear larger than usual, make sure the doctor knows this. The eyes may start to hurt pretty soon, since this is happening before puberty, so keep some eye drops handy in the bathroom just in case.
