I feel for you….my husband got fired from missing too much work from staying at home and taking care of me and my little one that was born 3 months early…I won’t say the name of the employer…but it is a large chain of stores that a man named Sam started. Even tho they had records from before from medical family leave act…apparently those had expired and surprise….goodbye job!!!!!
It’s a very sad sign of the times. There is no such thing as job security anymore.
One never knows — they can eliminate you from your job and say to you "The job description has changed and you don’t have skills in X, Y or Z. So based on that, we have to lay you off…" or "It’s just not that busy anymore and your job is being eliminated because of that." Anything can happen.
No way he could have taken his case to the dept of labor?
I went back to the endo yesterday and I told him that I was interested in signing on to a program via our state DVRS program — it’s vocational rehab to more or less help you make the transition back into the workplace; this applies to you if you have a disability or a condition that may be problematic when you return to work.
The DVRS counselor told me I needed a statement from my doc that stated that I’ve been medically cleared to return to work. Only then can I sign up for the programs that I am interested in.
When I got sick in October, I did not encroach upon this topic of being medically cleared for work with the endo. You see, I had the unfortunate horrible luck to be laid off from my job about 3 months before I got sick. (I’ve been trying to find a job on my own but no success and that’s another sad thread in itself; I’m about to snap some of these "interviewers" in two; I cannot figure out why I have been a NO at every job I’ve applied for).
He told me that he wants to wait until end of September — that is my next visit — and see what my bloodwork is like then. My levels are almost within normal but I am still having a lot of problems with insomnia, memory loss, muscle weakness — it’s all pretty much at the same level it was when I first got sick.
So here’s the thing: if I was still employed when I got sick, yu mean to tell me I’d be sitting home for nearly a year because I am not medically cleared to work? That’s very disturbing in itself, considering how shaky our economy is and how pretty much every employer seems to have us on a short leash: everybody and their uncle is under a "I might be laid off next" Sword of Damocles.” title=”Sad” />
Hey,
Sorry this is such a worrying time for you! We are in a similar situation where my hubby who is a specialist in languages has just been made redundant too…. Its such a worrying time and I am praying for all of you that we get some good news too. Even just enough to "give us our daily bread".
Love and prayers xxxxx
