It is the kind of cold that I want to get in bed with a heated mattress pad and covers on! It is not a typical feeling of cold. Different than that. Hard to explain. It is more like the feeling of cold that a person can have when they are
very hypo! The kicker is that I am always, by labs, very hyper thyroid, TSH alway very suppressed, has been for years, no matter how much Synthroid I take. Right now, we are trying to reduce it again.
I do live in Seattle, but it is pretty much true wherever I am. When I was at the conference in San Diego, it was gorgeous, warm weather. And i was cold.
It is very discouraging. Seems there have been some other posts about being cold lately.

I have the opposite problem. I am always super hot… burning up all the time. I’m usually in my down coat regularly after like the end of September. Not this year. I have worn a jacket twice. I am out scraping the frost from my car windows in just some light clothes. I huddle around a desk fan at work, and sometimes it is s bad I pray for snow so I can go lay in it! LOL!

Odd thing for me is… I felt this way when I was severely hyper… but now I have been medicated to be hypo and easing off on the Methimazole.

What do you suppose can be done about our body temps being so off, yet our meds appear to be working? I don’t want to think of possibly have to deal with this issue long term!

Hi Shirley – I wish I had a better answer for you! I frequently experience cold intolerance…I’m probably the only person in Arizona that has the heat on right now. :D But my T3/T4 levels are on the low normal side right now.

Has your doctor been able to shed any possible light?

    Hello.

Shirley, I want some of that cold feeling. I’m like Alyianna. Hot a lot of the time. I haven’t had the experience but it sound kind of like when one has a fever?

Alyianna, I feel your frustration. Exactly the same thing is happening to me. Being hot was one of my main symptoms when I first got sick in June but now that I’ve been on Methimazole for 5 months and on a lower dose b/c my fT4 is in the normal range, I still feel hot a lot of the time. I can be sitting at the computer feeling fine and all of the sudden I’m burning up. I haven’t had to wear much of a coat this fall. Everyone else if bundled up and I’m wearing a t-shirt or light jacket. I’m so glad to work in a place where they keep the temp low, otherwise I would have a very hard time. I’ve noticed that I get hot after eating. Does that happen to you?

I have asked my Endo about feeling hot when I’m no longer hyper like I was at first and he said that a lot of people feel hot. Not much of an answer. I get very thirsty too because I start to sweat.

I hope one day we can feel better. I feel that all I can do right now is hope. :)

    Hi, Shirley–

Im so sorry you’re going through this! Have you had your hematocrit checked lately or your white blood cell count? Being anemic can cause feeling cold, as can an underlying infection. You probably already know this, but thought I’d bring it up.

I usually feel my best when the temps outside are 80. Which doesn’t happen much here in Seattle. Im sure our recent cold, wet weather just makes how you feel even worse.

I wish I had more ideas for you.

    Take care, Amy

    Hi Shirley,
I also suffer from feeling the cold. I have never felt anything like it. The cold sort of comes from inside and goes right through my bones very hard to describe. No matter how many layers I have on, or even sitting 12 inches away from the heater would warm me up. I am also still hyper. We are now coming into summer over here and even on days of 32+ (think it’s about 94 – 100 + for you guys) I still have to wear my thermal socks and walk around with a jacket on whilst everyone is complaining about how warm it is. Maybe it is another symptom more to do with TED (only guessing on that one but it doesn’t seem to affect everyone, only a select few). I have also been diagnosed with pretibial myxedema (once again, one of only a select few). I am over this crazy roller coaster ride and just want it to stop. But anyhow, life goes on and hopefully your recent surgery has bought you some relief, try and stay warm and well.
    Cheers, hugs and kisses
    Debbie
