i have a question,my husband has been taking levo for about 10 years,he has underactive thyroid.4 month ago his lab results came back low,i think it was 5,41 TSH.i assumed our primary would raise his levo.primary said to wait 3 month and repeat labwork.now lab results is 5.2 TSH or something.but still shows up as out of range.my husband has been cold all winter and sleeps more then usual .i also have to say,he never feels the cold.as a matter of fact the man only owns 2 sweatshirts with long sleeves.just got a call from the dr.s office.to continue with same strength med.shouldnt he have been raised?at the same time my husband is overweight and takes cholesterol meds and he tells him to diet and excercise.i know what hypo feels like, having graves myself.how can he expect him to lose weight with a low thyroid?i also had requested free t3 and t4 labwork on both of us.neither one of us has a baseline and he only wrote the labslip out for TSH only.GRRR i think its time to change dr.s.

Hello – Obviously we’re not docs here, but if a patient is symptomatic *and* out of range, it seems like the doc should at least be willing to have a discussion about making a dose change!

If this doc is someone you’ve been happy with in the past, it might be worth scheduling a followup to have this discussion in person and try to preserve the relationship. If you just don’t think this doctor is taking your husband’s concerns seriously at all, then getting a second opinion would be a good idea.
