Toxicosis generally means that there is a severely high amount of thyroid hormone in your body — a “toxic” level, if you will; a level that is making you even more ill than normal. Since we tend to go a bit more hyperthyroid after RAI (when dying thyroid cells release their stored hormone into the blood) your doctor probably wants you at lower levels than you are now, before creating a situation where it will get even worse. The thyroid hormone “dump” after RAI occurs about a week into the process (give or take), and it sounds like your doctor is being careful. That is good.

I know that you would rather have this whole nightmare over sooner, rather than later, but it may well be that you need to trust your doctor’s judgment on this issue and wait a bit.

I do hope you are well on your way to recovery soon.

    Hi all

So I got my blood work back today and I am way hyper again. My endo said that I needed to be calm before having the RAI done or I could go into toxicosis? Have you ever heard of this before? She is wanting me to go back on my Ptu for a couple of weeks and then back off again and then get the ablation done. I can not wait till this is over! I feel like I am on an emotional rollar coaster.
