has any one gone hyper while taking Levo? Went to my 6 month check up and found out i was hyper.
I think the most obvious answer is that the dose of levothyroxine is too high. what are your labs? Do you mean that your labs say that your TSH number was low? That could mean you are taking a higher dose than you need. (What is the course of your Graves’? How do you feel? Do you FEEL hyper? What was the doc’s advice after your visit?
ShirleyTo continue my post written a minute ago. What is your Graves’ "story?"Might be a good idea to write more info-ie, did you have RAI, surgery, were you on ATD’s? I am guessing that your post is about a lab?
ShirleyI had RAI Sept 2009. Ive been on levo 100 since. Here recently Ive felt symptons of hyper, so i made dr appt. she lowered my dosage to 88. Thats only been 2 days ago. so im not feeling any better. have to go back in 3 months to check my levels. I hate feeling like this again. Im having awful mood swings, driving my family crazy. Im keeping my fingers crossed that i start feeling better soon.
Thank you for all the advice. ” title=”Wink” />One possibility: There can be thyroid tissue left after RAI. It may not be enough to send us hyperthyroid all by itself, but if there are fluctuations in antibody levels, it can, when added to a dose of replacement hormone, make us temporarily hyper again, requiring a cutback in our replacement hormone dose. Sometimes this cutback is temporary, and you might find you have to go back to the higher dose eventually.
Second possibility: if you are on the generic, and if your pharmacy recently changed generic manufacturers for the replacement hormone, there could be a difference in how it is absorbed into your body. This may not be a huge possibility, but I would watch carefully when you get your replacement pills. I have had pharmacies change other medications’ generic manufacturers from time to time. It’s not supposed to be a problem. But with something as strong as levothyroxin, small differences can be an issue.
