Hello, I was up last night at midnight reading through the archives about OD. I am due to have mine soon (like in the next three weeks) and am very nervous/excited (dare I dream about touching my eyes, and feeling them behind my brow bone) I have had some really good advise on here, and have been spurred on to have the OD even if I have to fund it myself as my Dr views it as cosmetic so will not refer me the next County down. Money will come and go but can you put a price on feeling confident again? I wanted to ask, my surgeon has told me he can reduce at least 3-4 mm, but I am not sure what to expect. Will I get loose baggy skin around the tops of my eyes? I have a top eyelid crease (created by my 1st surgery) and my lower lid has slight retraction from the eye bulging out underneath, will this go back up, once the eye is set back in? My proptosis is 6.9 on my left eye, and 8.5 on my right thats from him measuring from the outer corner of my eye. If I am to expect baggy upper lids, is there anything I can do to hide this with make up? I do wear makeup normally but I do want to wait until my eyes settle until going for the lid correction, I hope I will be so happy with the eyes I won’t give a damn about the loose skin! Thank you all as ever, Jo xxx

Here is my experience. I had a VERY bulging eye. OD 2/2/10. I think the important thing is to expect the post op period, as far as measurements go, and plans for future eyelid surgery, at least three months. The big thing is that measurements need to be consistent over time, so the corrections they make are based on information that is not still changing. In answer to your question, my eyelids do not look a bit different after the OD. I do not have baggy skin there.
The main difference between your experience and most of the experiences of people on this blog, is that they did not have any surgery prior to the OD. I am "just" another person with TED, no expert at all. IT sounds like you are in the cold phase, lucky you. So I guess the "take away" from my experience is that I think I looked great after the OD because I elevated my head and used ice therefore no appreciable swelling or bruising. And that my eyelids were not baggy after the OD and look just fine.
They have been droopy (upper eyelid) for years, and when I am in the cold phase, I look forward to the muscle surgery and an eyelid surgery to hike the upper lid up a little bit. Best of wishes with your OD. I think you will be super glad you had it.

Hello and thanks for your advise <img decoding=” title=”Very Happy” /> I was very concerned the skin would bag or crepe on my upper lid, I am still quite young so I hope this and healthy lifestyle helps with any problems with lid position. I have to say, after the first op, I was let down somewhat I can remember feeling upset that it was not as much of a difference as I had hoped, also it was VERY painful and I got a runny nose for years afterwards that has only just stopped in the last couple of years. HEY ho! Come what may, I know he would NOT do the operation if he did not think he could give me a better cosmetic look so I am happy, I just don’t want to imagine walking out of the house with my hair tied up, or not wearing sunglasses all the time if I am tired or my eyes are dry! I will have my fingers crossed that things go back with the eyes, BUT I have been like this for 14 years! ( I am 30) so they have been pretty stretched I should imagine. Could my eyes be pretty again? Who knows, I am so, I can’t think of word… I am so happy/nervous/hopeful……This disease has robbed me of so much, the pain I have gone through the mocking the emotional turmoil..To be told at 20 very bluntly I will look NEVER the same again, it hurts you know? I am going to put up some pictures if I am brave enough so I can share some hope with others Thank you snelston I hope your recovery is going well, Jo x
