Doctor wrote me a note on mychart and said my value is “7.” He said it should be at least 30.

He said if I don’t do something about this, I will have bone fractures down the line. Question: how do you get Vitamin D to increase with no sun? Also, the risk of sun causes skin cancer so I wear SPF 30 at all times.

I have tried sub-lingual Vitamin D but it made me nauseated.

My endo tested my “D” levels, and when they were low, she prescribed a supplement that comes in capsule form.

For those interested in Vitamin D supplementation, definitely check with your doctor to get tested first. As with just about any vitamin, excessive levels can be toxic, so you definitely want a baseline test, and then guidance from your doc on appropriate supplementation if needed.

My internist recommended that I take 2000IU of vitamin D daily since I have graves. He also said that it was known fact (at least here in Canada) that anyone living on the 47th parallel and above take 1000IU daily even if they don’t have graves. (There is not enough sun). Talk to your doctor.

There are some foods that have vitD – tuna, mushrooms, eggs, alfalfa, fish oils.

Good to have it checked. Good to be sure it is in a reasonable range. Good to supplement if it is not.
