    Hey all!

Got word today from my endo that my labs are finally in normal range :D

My question is, if I am in normal range, why am I having cardiac symptoms and some restless sleep as I am weaning down from propranalol (which I was put on to manage the cardiac symptoms when this all started in December)?

At my last appointment in April I was on propranalol 60mg/day, and my endo suggested I begin weaning down since my thyroid labs were beginning to stabilize, each week decreasing my daily dose by 10mg. I went down to 50mg/day that next week, but could tell almost immediately that I was not going to tolerate going that fast. I hung out at the 50mg/day dosage for TWO weeks, and decreased to 40mg/day just this past Sunday. I have really felt the cardiac stuff since (heart racing, skipped beats, etc), and have had restless sleep and some feelings of anxiety/worked up (ie was tired Sunday afternoon but could not settle for a nap).

I would think that if my labs are showing as normal I would not have symptoms at all, even if I were to stop the propranalol entirely (which is not advised, anyway).

Wondering if anyone here has had a similar experience or has any insight??

    Thanks!

Hello – Your doc is in the best position to answer this question, so definitely make sure he/she is aware that you are still experiencing symptoms, but here are a few thoughts…

    1. Which labs were “normal”? TSH, T3, *and* T4? If one is out of normal range, that could be the issue.

    2. Where are your labs compared to your last test? Sometimes moving upward, even in the “normal” range can cause symptoms.

    3. Perhaps discuss with your doc a slower weaning of the beta blocker. I’ve not taken these, but I do know that I am very sensitive to small changes of anti-thyroid drugs.

Hope you can get some relief soon!
