I had RAI in 2007 and had severe TED until 2010 and the surgeries were finally completed to restore my eye structures. My TSH is within range yet free T4 keeps climbing. I think I heard at one of the Graves conferences that they want free T4 to be on the high side of normal. Mine is now climbing above it. My question is: Has anyone else experienced this?, Is this something to be concerned about for post Graves?, Does it cause Hyper-symptoms or anything else I should know — I do not want the return of any of the TED symptoms or Hyper or Hypo symptoms. I have 2 doses of levothryoxin that I can vary with depending of the symptoms I feel, per my doctor, and the levels are checked every 6 months since I have had a stable TSH.

Hello – Hopefully, you will get some responses from others post-RAI. I have not heard of the guideline that T4 should be kept on the high side for Graves’ patients, although for certain thyroid cancer survivors, the preference is to keep T4 levels high enough that TSH will be suppressed.

If your T4 levels are actually above normal now, I would suggest discussing with your doctor whether you need a dosage adjustment, as that could potentially bring about a return of your hyper symptoms.

    Take care!
