Good Morning!
This website is sponsored by the Graves’ Disease Foundation. It has been around for 19 years. It is a patient orgainzation with excellent physician support. We try to support you, give you accurate information, and sometimes just listen.
I will assume you were just diagnosed with Graves’. It is an overactive thyroid (meaning it is pumping out more thyroid hormone that you need). It must be treated, and there are several ways to do that. You didn’t do anything to make yourself "catch" Graves’. It started on the inside with your own antibodies that got confused, and thought your thyroid gland was "not you", and began attacking it.
You need to find the best thyroid doctor you can, and DIALOGUE with him or her. There is nothing special that you can eat, or shouldn’t eat (except large doses of iodine, which would help make MORE thyroid hormone), but you need to begin to eat healthy, and take good care of yourself.
I invite you to scroll through these pages, read lots and lots. There is even more information in the ten-years of archived messages.
Once you get an idea of what you want to aski: we are here for you. We are patients, not doctors. This is not a substitute for good medical care.
Welcome to our Family,
