Welcome Ellen,
I am so glad that you have joined the GDF. Your reputation preceeds you. My father has Graves and my mother apparently remembers talking to you on the phone at the thyroid foundation years ago. She told me when I was diagnosed two years ago to call Ellen she’s very helpful. My mom is the kind of person who keeps notes! She also has Hashimotos so I knew that eventually I might be a thyroid patient too. I hope that you will write in on the bulletin board too. This is a great way to share information with lots of people at once.ewmb
Hi Ellen,
Welcome aboard! You are very welcome. We look forward to hearing from you xxx
Welcome Ellen – Looking forward to working with you! ” title=”Wink” />
I have just been asked to climb aboard the GDF Bulletin Board — to have a share in the activities of all the participants. I am a newcomer to the Graves’ Disease Foundation. My previous 12 years I worked with the Thyroid Foundation of America. I left a year ago because the head of the organization retired and closed its doors. It turns out what I am doing now is almost exactly what I did in my previous job-—answering hot line telephone calls and website emails. I myself have been lucky enough not to have gotten Graves’ disease yet —and I say not yet –because my mother had a goiter all her adult life and then in the last year of her life developed hyperthyroidism. Even though I do not have Graves’ disease I am extremely familiar with the illness because in my previous job I had a chance to speak with and listened to literally thousands of Graves’ patients.
What about my earlier years. All my life I have live in Massachusetts—the first 12 years in Amherst and after that I moved to Belmont and Cambridge. My college studies were in biology and chemistry which provided the foundation for my interest in the health sciences. I married in my early twenties, taught in a Headstart program in Framingham and raised two sons (now in their thirties) in a small town in the Worcester area. I am presently back in Boston (Cambridge)– spending weekends near the Cape. My husband and I are kept very busy and active building (mostly by ourselves) a cottage, barn and if time allows us — a house. Once the construction work is under control we will resume our recreational activities of boating.
I have no grandchildren yet but may be getting closer as my oldest son is to be married in October. However, I do have two substitute grandchildren. My twin brother (also in Cambridge) — has nine year old twins—a boy and girl.
I consider myself fortunate in some ways to be passed the child rearing stage because it allows me to have more free time to do what I most enjoy — talking and corresponding with Graves’ patients and in so doing (I hope) helping them to find the best medical care they deserve so they can be and feel normal again.
Any time you feel like talking to me, just leave me a message using the GDF toll free number. An email to the Graves’ Disease Foundation will reach me too.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Sincerely,
Ellen Brightly Administrative Assistant Graves ‘ Disease Foundation 400 International Drive Williamsville, NY 14221 Toll-free – (877) 643-3123 Email: Gravesdiseasefd@gmail.com Website: http://www.NGDF.orgHello Ellen,
