Does he want you have RAI because of the TSH value? The T4 is at the high end of normal if you are using Canadian values. The TSH is low. Mine has been 0.1 now for about 8 months. My T4 dropped from
33 to 14 in two weeks, but TSH is still 0.1. My doctor told me today that the TSH may not move for several months. TSH is the most sensitive and he says it drops about 3 months before hyper symptoms appear. I lasted 6 months after coming off PTU. T4 was great, but TSH did not move. Have just come off PTU today, 10 weeks after RAI.

    To Steve,

I was on PTU for 16 months, the last 8 of which were unpleasant with symptoms of hypo. I live in a very small prairie town and at that time we did not have a doctor. The doctor in the next town kept telling me my levels were ok and it was all in my mind. My own doctor came back, but was leaving for good. She sent me to a specialist who took me off PTU. For 6 momths I was in great shape T4 20, but the TSH didn’t move. There was still no doctor here so I was being monitored from 100 kms away. In December T4 shot up to 33. A new doctor came to town. The specialist ordered RAI in January and sent me back to the new GP. He has been wonderful. He put me on PTU 5days after RAI and has monitored me very regularly since. T4 was still 33 two weeks ago and then suddenly dropped to 14. TSH still hasn’t moved. I was taken off PTU yesterday. He says this is the drop he’s been waiting for.
I was told that RAI might not be complete for 6 months and since normal readings here are T4 10-24,, TSH 0.5-6.00, I wondered why you were being considered for RAI so soon.
