    Hi Steve

Great to hear from you again. They are finding that high blood pressure does occur with Graves Disease very often. You do want to address this since you need to get your blood pressure under control again. I’m not sure about the high potassium levels being due to Graves Disease. I don’t recall hearing or reading anything thing about that. What has your doctor said about this?

    Hi, Steve:

It’s nice to see you back, but I’m sorry you’re having problems.

Synthroid should not cause high blood pressure or potassium levels to go amok. It is chemically identical to the naturally occurring hormone, thyroxin (T4), with the exception of the inert ingredients that are used to make the chemical into a pill. So, unless naturally occurring thyroid hormones could cause something like that (and I haven’t read that they can) then synthroid should not be able to do it, either.

P.S. Please try to remember not to use all capital letters — it’s wicked to try to read it. Thanks.

    Hi Steve!

Good to know that you’ve been doing okay up until lately.
I don’t know about high BP being caused by Graves, but I
have it too. I have lots of family history of it though.
Anyway, I do know that some high blood pressure meds can
have adverse effects on your potassium levels. Unfortunately,
I don’t remember which types of BP meds though. I’ve been on both an
ACE inhibitor and beta blockers. I’m currently on a beta
blocker. Inquire with your doc or pharmacist, especially if you’re
already taking something for high BP. He/she should be able to
tell you the potential potassium side effects.

    All the best,
    Sheila H.

Just a short note to say hello to old friends. I am still around and doing well. My daughter married in 2002, and now have two beautiful grandsons (who we spoil bunches and send back to parents!!) Our son married this past July (in the storm that hit St. Louis!), and now the happy couple lives in Boston working with a church planting team. We just came back fromo visiting them.
Life is good, we have ups and downs, but it is good.
    Hugs to all,
    Ellie
