ohh noo,
I was/am lol experiencing the same thing. I asked me endo and he assured me that its just hormonal changes and its probably NOT TED. However, there is always that slim chance it is. I am scheduled for an eye exam maybe you should get yours checked too ” title=”Smile” /> Just to be assured and safe:)God Bless you all
KrystalEmily,
I’d get your GP to check to see if you are having a sinus infection. It would be bad to let that go unattended. I had many allergy symptoms when I was hyper; headaches, sneezing etc.. I was taking claritin every day. I was sent to see an allergist who told me after testing, that I wasn’t really allergic to anything she had pricked me with. She told me that I would need to come back when my thyroid was under control. She had seen lots of thyroid patients who had "allergy" symptoms when they were really having an allergic reaction. She, along with my uncle, did get me to start using a nasal irrigator every day so I could try and stop the symptoms. It’s kind of like a waterpik for your sinuses. It sounds awful to squirt salt water up your nose but it really did help me get rid of my headaches. Mine broke last week and until I find a new one I am starting to have allergy symptoms again. I had RAI 10 weeks ago so I am hoping that this allergy stuff stops when I get settled.Hope this helps a little. You could try saline spray or a nettie pot. Both are less expensive.

Hi to the best support group (OK, the only one) that I’ve ever been in –
I’m having headaches, prettty constant and they won’t go away with tylenol/motrin. I don’t think it’s meds, because they haven’t changed in months. I’m wondering if it’s TED. My eyelids tend to be puffy in the morning. They are not very dry because I already use LOTS of drops. Those are the only symptoms I have as far as TED. But my headaches are kind of like sinus headaches – pressure in my forehead and between my eyes. When I shut my eyes and press against my eyebrows it gives me some relief – but it’s hard to spend a day like that. I’m kind of hoping this isn’t the pressure build-up before the eyes start bulging.
Any thoughts?

Hey have you ever had migraines? Could be coming off the eye trouble?
xxxYeah. I have been diagnosed with migraines since i was 12. I have a typical migraines. He knows that and said my hormones were triggering them as well:( oh well. Im used to them. They are my least worry but im not on any atds. Sooooo.
Just reread my last post I should have typed that the thyroid patients were having allergy symptoms when they weren’t really having an allergic reaction.

I do have headaches and have had migraines for years. I would not rule out the TED. My headaches worsen and I had the puffy eyes. I did not go to the doctor until one of my eyes was bigger than the other. And found out I have TED. And it is to the point that the doctors are very concerned with my Optic nerve. I thought it was my migraines or sinus and allergies. I would definately have your eyes checked out.
Thanks for your responses.
I’ve never been diagnosed with migraines, but from other people’s descriptions I don’t think these are migraines.
I do use a nasal irrigator and it does help when I have sinus issues – this "feels" the same, but I can kind of tell it’s not sinus.
I also have a history of TMJ and already wear a mouthguard at night – so that rules that out.
When I saw the opthamologist he said "mild regression and mildly dry eyes" – nothing spectacular there, but that was a couple of months ago.
Maybe it’s just a phase – hormonal, levels changing, or whatever.
We’ll see – thanks again!

Emily – I am not sure I can add much here. I did experience headaches with an aura starting about a week post RAI. I thought it might be eyes, too – my doc put me on beta blockers (he said I was probably hyper from hormone released from my thyroid but my blood pressure was normal). The blockers did not help so I went to the eye doc and he said the aura was a "visual migraine". Two days after I started thyroid replacement hormone, the headaches went away (after 6 weeks of every day!) At least until I got mildly high on replacement hormone 6 months later – and there they were again until they re-regulated the dose down a bit. I had migraines all through adolescence and until I had my second child. Then nothing in almost 30 years. In my humble opinion, there has to be a thyroid connection.
I have read that they are finding some links between hypo and migraines. Interesting, indeed – though mine seem to start when I am hyper and have not eaten – but they also went away when I started thyroid replacement. I think we are just learning how migraines and thyroid relate, though.
I agree on having a doctor follow those eyes closely. And good luck – If I remember one thing I would not want to have to do again it would be live with those headaches daily for 6 weeks. We are here if you want to talk. C
Thanks Cathy,
I have an appt with my GP on Friday for a follow-up. I’m going to ask him what he thinks – but I’ll probably schedule again with the opthamologist.

I have had Graves for about 8 years. I had the orbital decompression, double vision correction, reconstructive eye surgery. Last year I had 2 retinal tears and now the pressure in my eye is very high.
My occular plastic surgeon said something is wrong and sent me to an
ENT, had cat scan. They said there was a sinus infection, although I am symptom free. Took a course of antibiotics and now they want to do surgery. I really don’t want to have sinus surgery.Last year I had 3 surgeries for breast cancer and the 2 surgeries for the retinal tears.
What do we know about sinus surgery on the side of the orbital decompression?
