Hi. I was newly diagnosed in January 2011 with extreme hyperthyroidism (180% above blood test results) along with Grave’s Disease. I continue to be treated with Tapazole, needing it to be reduced according to my monthly and now every two months blood tests. Currently I am hypothyroid yet not out of the woods yet. My endocrinologist is treating me well BUT I find he does not understand symptoms I experience as he attributes it to "something else." So I’d like to know if anyone else
has experienced the following…and thank you for any responses.
One day I missed my daily Tapazole dose and was not able to take it until I got home that night. I realized something was wrong in the morning when I felt nauseaus, dizzy and out of sorts all day. I eventually felt better within 2 hours once I took the missed dose. My doctor says this reaction could not have been from a missed dose and I beg to differ. So has anyone else had this happen? Now I’m nervous because my Tapazole is changed to taking if for 5 days per week and skipping 2 consecutive days.
My other continued symptom has to do with my eyes. I have 20/20 vision but often they have a hazy feeling and I have trouble focusing. I tend to use Gelteal eye drops for the dyrness BUT again, he says only the dryness is a reaction from the thyroid. I read a lot about Graves Disease and it seems and wonder if anyone has vision issues like I described?Hello – I don’t think I’ve missed a full day’s dose of methimazole, so I can’t comment on that issue.
The "haziness" that you mention could be related to dryness…and issues focusing *can* potentially be related to eye involvement. If you aren’t already seeing an ophthalmologist to check out the eye issues, that would be worth a visit.
Also, keep in mind that the stronger gel drops can actually *cause* vision impairment for 20 minutes or so after you apply them. I generally save the gel for night and stick to drops during the day.
Take care!
