I too had massive hair loss. In fact it was the reason my doctor did the Thyroid check in the first place. I was blessed with thick hair so that has helped. I bought a wig and a hair piece, but since I had the RAI almost two weeks ago my hair loss has reached a standstill. I have just enough left to make my life tolerable. I don’t have to wear the wig or the hairpiece. BUT, my hair does look different and it also feels different. It’s so much thinner, especially in the front. I used to have thick bangs, now I have wisps. My friends and family tell me it looks better, that I had too much hair before. I know they are trying to make me feel good and I am most appreciative. The part I am still having trouble with is the texture. My hair is shoulder lenth and blonde (more from a bottle than natural) and it is really wiry and brittle and just plain weird feeling. I have tried conditioners and mousses and I use a thickener shampoo and a thickener mousse and hair gel on it. It helps but not much. I guess now its just a matter of hoping I have seen the last of the hair loss and then waiting a long long time for it to grow back again. I do see little teeny short hairs where my bald spots are. I think I am on the road back to normalcy. It just might be a long ride, thats all. I hope you have the same luck I have had and that your hair loss will also slow down and then stop. I hope this gives you some reason to look to the future with hope and confidence. Sincerely, Je Ne

HI Tonidre, I wish there was a way to stop the hair from falling out. I have to wash mine this morning and I am already dreading it. I have sort of been at a standstill but I keep remembering what it felt like to have my fingers full of hair and I am so afraid it will start all over again. I have just enough hair that I don’t need a wig or hairpiece, but it is definately very thin. My bald spots are underneath and that helps too. I guess there is no real answer escept to get a wig (if needed) until its all over with. I do think its only temporary and that the hair will come back and probably thicker than ever. I bought a synthetic wig to have ready but I hate it…its too fakey looking. If I need one I am going to go get a human hair one and have my hairdresser style it to look like my own hair. I hope your hair reaches a standstill real soon. How do you look in real short hair? I can’t wear mine short – it looks worse than the wig. So I just hav this longer wispy looking stuff for the time being. Hang in there….there is hope for all of us but it involves time….patience is a virtue that especially WE hve to learn. I keep thinking that this is one of lifes Karmas and that there is a lesson to be learned from this. I use “visualization” therapy at night…I lay in bed and imagine little fireman behind my eyes, putting out the burning embers from the graves disease and making room for my eyeballs to go further back into the socket where they belong. I have read that the power of mind over matter can be helpful in curing things and I am trying every avenue that I can find. I also take a ton of herbs and vitamins and I am trying desperately to eat as healthy as I can. I drink a ton of water all day and all night (except when I am at work). Every time I go to the bathroom (which is all the time) I make myself drink another glass of water. Its an endless circle but I am convinced that it is one of the best things I can do for my body. Hang in there about the hair…it will come back. Its just so hard to face the world when we don’t look the same. BUT, inside we are the same, if not stronger and more beautiful because of what we have to deal with. Don’t forget that. Je Ne
Dear Je Ne..thank you for your support..today will be a doosie..i had a lazy day yesterday and didnt wash my hair so today will be double coming out and it looks so bad on the counter when i clean out my comb!! My hair is above the shoulders bob and i went in 2 weeks ago for a little color touchup and my gal said my hair hadnt grown at all in 8 weeks!!!now it has been 10 and not a milimeter!! but i know it is temparary and dont think of this as karma!! none of us have been that bad of a person to have this bad of karma…just a lessson in life to make us wiser and stronger…hope your day is good!!
It’s been a long time since I have viewed the graves disease bullent borad. I just want you to know that I have had graves disease and thyroid problem since 1980 my hair has been falling out for years. I still have plenty of hair it just takes a little longer for it to grow now, but that may also be because I am getting older. Hang in there tomorrow will bring a brighter day.
thank you ladyj…does it fall out in cycles or is it generaly fall out all the time..i do have nice hair when it isnt on my floor!! i am over 40 now and the repunzel look is a little dated for me but it is the thicknees i sure hope i dont loose for good!!.this is so freekin hard on my mind for sure!!!
My hair falls out when I bush it, when I touch it, and sometimes it just falls out by itself. I am just use to it happening that if it didn’t I would probably think there is something wrong because it’s not falling out. My husband hates it more than I do because I can’t leave the bathroom without my hair being on the sink. I just have to remember to clean it off before I leave.
