Oh dear, you really do get everything in its worst form, don’t you? I’m SO sorry this has been such a tough road! The vocal cord damage is a tough one, something you just have to endure I guess, get used to it and, as you say, be grateful that you’re here for them, no matter how you sound. I hope it’s not TOO bad, and I really hope that some improvement MAY occur….

As far as the dose change, the theory is always to start low and go slow ~ it’s tough on the body to make radical shifts in thyroid hormone, even when you may need to have it, so it’s best to just move up one dose at a time and make sure the body "settles in" before going with more.

HANG IN!!!

Hello Hyperm:

I’m new to this forum, recently diagnosed with Grave’s and 3 weeks out from the RAI treatment. Just wanted to give you a (((hug))) and hope things improve for you soon.

Hi Hyperm,
Good to hear from you. Is there any chance that when the scarring is complete that things might get better? Don’t know much about vocal cords. I do remember Julie Andrews, Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, had some surgery and can’t sing anymore. Sounds like the change in medication level will be good and make you feel more like doing things.
How are other things going? Have you been able to talk about going back to work? Is your weight coming under control for you? I am watching my symptoms for when the RAI will kick me over to the other side. My pulse has been going down steadily over time. I’m not as low as you got after your surgery.

Hope that you feel better soon.

Ok….Lost sight of which round it is for me. I have vocal nerve damage and am devastated My voice sounds awful and I am stuck with it. However, I am alive and can be a mum to my kids.

My GP called at 6pm tonight my TFT from Monday wasn’t good and my TSH is 18.8 so she has upped my thyroxine from 75mcg to 100mcg.. Is that enough do you think? I asked her if I should contact my endo or surgeon but she said not to worry as she has seen it alot worse.

I am back to being scared and very frustrated!

Well, let’s hope and pray that as time marches forth the vocal cords will continue to heal. I have seen that happen so keep the faith. Slow is best when titrating thyroxine and it also a good idea to lab every 8 weeks for this process to be done properly.

Sending hugs, Lu Anne

There you are! I’ve been thinking about you. Geez that really stinks about your vocal cords! Do they know for sure that they won’t heal with time? I’m sorry, hyperm. But you are right, at least now you can be better for your family.

Would a speech therapist alleviate your problem somewhat? Ask about getting on board to see one — it could probably help you immensely. Get a consultation, even if you think the therapist won’t help.
