So about 3-4 yrs ago I was diagnosed with Graves, my endo was able to control to it and put me on tapozole 5mg. I’ve been taking that same dosage ever since I was diagnosed. She had told me that I can go to my family physician for monitoring/blood tests every 6 months… which I have been doing but in the past 3/4 yrs my dosage has never been lowered even though I was feeling ok. That’s just a little background… Now, in the past 4-6 months I have been feeling a little off with possible hypo symptoms like unexplained weight gain (even though I been training for a marathon and eating well), and very fatigued. And weirdly enough I sometimes feel some hyper symptoms too like sweating ALOT and elevated heart rate. I did go to my family physician doc and told him about this.. he did some tests, TSH, T3, T4… and he said I was normal. I’m of course now feeling very frustrated because that still doesn’t explain why I’m feeling this way. I do have an appt with my endo but the earliest I could get in was mid-Oct. I’m just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, thoughts…. or maybe I’m just crazy
Thanks, Erin
Hello – You are definitely NOT crazy! Hopefully, the endo will be able to shed some light on what is going on. Keeping a detailed symptom log prior to the appointment might also be helpful.
In the meantime, have you been getting hard copies of you labs? Keep in mind that the “normal” range for thyroid labs is fairly wide, so “normal” might not necessarily be *optimal* for you. Some patients tend to feel their best at the mid-point, upper end, etc..
Take care — and keep us posted!
And, one additional comment. Just because we have one disease, it does not mean that forever any symptom that we have is due to that disease. It is possible to turn up with some other problem(s). Maybe not “fair,” but definitely the way life goes.
Hey I have similar experiences, have graves for years but now my symptoms range from hypo, fatigue, chills etc to hyper sudden sweats and easily hot tempered.
Personally I found the hypo symptoms worst off as it can ruin the day when you feel your energy is completely zapped.
I have found great comfort in taking an iodine free multi daily and getting a lot of rest, going gluten free whenever possible and try not to be stressed.
Good luck!
