This is what I am wondering.

I was hypo at one time but that was at the end of 2010.

For the last year and a half I have been “maintaining” with 2.5 milligrams of methimazole daily.

For the last 3 or 4 days I have been having a real problem with constipation, something that never happens to me.

All bloods were normal the last I had them done and that was at the start of March.

    Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome – There are several scenarios where Graves’ patients can go hypo on anti-thyroid drugs. Being on too high of a dose of anti-thyroid drugs like Methimazole can push patients into hypo territory. In other cases, the antibodies that cause Graves’ can start *blocking* thyroid hormone production instead of stimulating too much thyroid hormone production. Finally, there are some patients that actually have both Graves’ disease and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis – Hashi’s is another autoimmune condition that causes destruction of the thyroid gland and can lead to hypothyroidism.

Each patient is different, but other hypo symptoms can include fatigue, joint pain, unexplained weight gain, dry skin, cold intolerance, heavier periods, and slow pulse.

Even though you had labs a couple of months ago, if this continues, it’s definitely worth contacting your doctor to schedule an appointment and get some further insight on what is going on. Of course, it could just be a temporary episode due to dehydration or diet changes, but this is certainly worth keeping an eye on.

    Take care!
