Lin, My doc goes witht eh shcool of thought that cold is better. You have
taken the right steps on what to do so far. The cold compresses sooth the
eyes and help to constrict the blood vessels around and on the eye thus can
reduce swelling. Warm compresses cause the blood vessels to enlarge and
the school of thought there is the blood vessels can move the swelling fluids
away. You need to try both to see what works best for you. Cold works for me.

There is an eye wrap that can be bought at a hospital supply store. It
wraps around your head and has two pouches where the eyes are for little ice
bags. I should only be worn for no more than 20 minutes at a time.

    Hope this helps.

Try cutting out salt in diet. Also, processed foods are LOADED with sodium!

    Hi,
You mentioned that you use eye drops… Have you tried the real thick ones for nighttime – they stay in your eyes longer but you can’t use them during the day because it really blurs your vision…

My eyelids are puffy, especially in the morning. Is there anything that will
help prevent the worsening of this problem??? And I have had two conflicting
pieces of advice about applying compresses to relieve the puffiness and
swelling – one doctor says warm compresses, the other says cold. Does
    anyone know which is better??

    – What I am doing already –
Keeping my head raised at night (bought a pillow wedge form)
Applying compresses in the morning for a few minutes
    Moisturing eye drops
Protecting eyes from glare, dust and wind

Hope someone out there can help me.

    Dear Lori
Hi Lori how are you doing?I was wanting to ask if the eye drops you use are in a precription and exactly why do you use them is it because of the sandy gritty feeling in your eyes that hurt? I know I use tears plus at night mostly at night it seems to bother me more then in the day time.I also get infection sometimes probably because of the amount of times my eyes come out of their sockets,it’s no wonder I get infection the way I do,but anyway I use an eye ointment the eye doctor gave me for that, but anyhow was wondering why you use the eye drops, maybe they could be benificial to me for something I don’t know about yet, thanks Lori, Barb and have a good day everyone

Try the lacra-lube, or dura-lube for night time use on eyes. Use about a quarter inch bead in each eye. In the am, wash eyes gently with a clean cloth and flood with natural tears.
