It definitely takes your body a while to return to normal, even though your levels have begun to fall within the normal range. Think of hyperthyroidism like a hurricane ~ the wind may stop, the rain is done, the sea is back in its proper place, but the area is not "well" by any means. Your body is like that. The wind has stopped, the assault is over, but the tree is still on the roof. Your body is only now able to [b:12gxvlk4]begin[/b:12gxvlk4] to heal, and your elevated blood pressure may well be evidence of that. As your levels remain stable, it should begin to get back to normal. It’s good you’ve got an eye on it.
Dear Aravindh,
Thank you for giving us more information about the history of your background and your illness. That helps.
You want to know whether an elevated BP and some chest pains are to be expected when your thyroid levels have just been brought to just below normal range. That’s a question best answered by your doctor, but I can tell you that people in your situation have asked me this question literally hundreds of times, so perhaps your answer is there?

Best wishes, Dianne[/quote:3o4a0pc2]To answer Dianes Question –
Yes I am taking Tapazole in the night after food. Even yesterday as soon as I had food, I had nausea (in the night )I felt like vomitting and then suddenly it stopped.. Then I coughed a couple of times..Thanks
Aravindh KNDear Aravindh,
I’m so sorry this has to be so difficult. Most people don’t have the nausea, but a few seem to. How much methimazole are you taking each day now? I think it will help when you’re able to reduce to a very small dose (5 mg per day or so).
Dear Dianne,
I am currently on 10mg OF TAPAZOLE per day.. Just now I checked the BP and it was just a little above normal 140/90 just before taking the medicine.. So I decided to take the medicine…
Strangely enough this nausea some how comes only in the night.. But it is for a very short time.. fortunately… Except for the fear, I am starting to feel normal for the past two days.. My face has brightened and people say I look happy..Thanks for your guidance and support.
Aravindh KNHi DianeMaamabearSki,
For the past few weeks, I am feeling to slowly get better and my dizziness is vanishing slowly.. Still I do have some dizziness in the mornings .. That too had a sort of dizziness today morning. I feel great to be normal but the fear of going back to abnormal haunts me.. I am on tapazole 5 + 5 mg per day and on Inderal 20 mg still. I was thinking whether Doc would wean me off the Inderal.. In general feeling BETTER.. Hoping for better things to happen in days to come.. I have gained about 25 pounds and Doc says I am EUTHYROID… He asked me to start doing some exercise which I am seriously thinking of.. I feel a little tired in the evenings and feel like sleeping and thats the reason I skip those exercises…I should try to atleast exercise a little bit.. Hope I get the confidence soon..Thanks again for your advisehelp and posts.
Regards
Aravindh KNWe’re happy to help, Aravindh! Talk with your doctor specifically about the Inderal ~ I know you mentioned that you had high blood pressure issues, and so that may be the reason you’re taking it even while euthyroid, but it’s possible that you can either wean off it or take less, considering the dizziness you’re experiencing. I’m sure getting started with the exercise your doctor allows is a good idea ~ even at low levels, it provides a benefit to you and begins to get your muscle mass back in shape.
Thanks for the update! ” title=”Very Happy” />
Dear SkiMaama BearDiane,
Last week I had a routine Blood Test and he said that I could go ahead and reduce the Tapazole to 5 mg per day. He said that the TSH was around 4 and hence asked me to reduce the Tapazole to 5 mg per day. This was the update that he gave.So wanted to keep our members updated on the same. I have put in a lot of weight and I am starting to feel very sleepy a lot of times.. But I still have a lot of anxiety and the BP levels are a little bit elevated. Doc has asked me to still continue with Inderal and one tablet of Lotrel a day. He said he would monitor me in about 3 weeks.Thats the update for now. Does the TSH of 4 mean to say that I have become HYPO thyroid ? Yesterday I had some throat pain and updated about this to the Doc. He asked me to gargle some hot water. Today I have a little bit of pain in the throat.. nothing much for now.. Will keep posting. Thank You. Aravindh KN
Hi Ski/Maama Bear/ Diane,
I wish to thank you all for all the support provided during this period when I was diagnosed with Graves. I am feeling to get a lot better.. and I am on a maintanence Dosage of 5mg of Tapazole per day.. I have gained a lot of weight these days and have become a little obese too. Totally gained about 35 pounds.. Which I feeeel is huge difference. But anyways happy that I feel normal most of the times. Rarely I have dizziness and offcourse occasional hear pains.. But I can see the difference. It has all been because of your support and guidance. Nothing would have been possible without you all. Also, now I have to concentrate on reducing my weight a little bit. Please do guide me.. Any guidance in this regard would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and Best Regards
Aravindh K NatarajanHi Aravindh,
I’m so happy to hear that you’re feeling better ~ I’ve been wondering! ” title=”Very Happy” />
Now, for your weight. As everyone will tell you, exercise and eating right, those are the best tools to use. As you begin exercising, you may actually want to see a physical therapist, because it’s hard to know where you stand in muscle strength and stamina without one. It’s easy to overdo ~ slow and steady will return your muscles to their previous state of strength, which will go a long way toward taking the weight off. As in all things with Graves’, patience, stay with it, and you will get there.
Pay particular attention to your larger muscles (upper legs, upper thighs, back & chest), because those are the ones that suffer the most damage in hyperthyroidism.
As far as food goes, just eat fresh foods, whole grains, limit fats (I’m sure you know all of this stuff), and watch your portion sizes. It’s just being sensible, but also realizing that we may have a particularly tough row to hoe. If you don’t see immediate results, keep with it, you’ll get there. Don’t starve yourself ~ it makes your body believe you are starving, which makes it hoard fat to keep you alive. Eat regularly, and eat right, and you’ll not only be promoting your own healing, but also getting closer to having your weight under control.
It’s much easier when you’re feeling well, so KNOW there are better days ahead for you!
Dear Ski,
Thank you very much for your advise. For a month now I am on 5 mg of Tapazole per day and the day I wrote a note in the discussion forum, I started feeling a little bit dull. I have those little little palpitations towards the evenings and feel very tired and strengthless towards the evenings a little bit again.I am also having a little bit of those nauseating feelings.
I would prolly have to go to the endo and ask him if I have to increase the dosage a little bit after a blood test.I have read in the forum that the maintanence dosage is 5 mg once in two days.. But it looks like this 5 MG per day seems to be too little for my body..I am also having those standard little heart pain when I wake up in the mornings..In addition to this I am having this severe tooth pain because of the cavity in the wisdom tooth. I have to consult a dentist
regarding this as well. I am starting to doubt whether these severe tooth pain would have caused all these triggers.Hope everything gets well in days to come. My Doctor (Internal Medicine) has now delayed my appointment dates to once in two months only since I became EUTHYROID. I will discuss all this with him during my next meet with him.
But per your guidance I have really come a long long way but still feel there is a long way to go for complete normalcy. I am hoping to get that as well.
Thanks
