    Happy Holidays!

I was just wondering if anyone else out there is post RAI and recently diagnosed with IBS? I had RAI 2 years ago this past Thanksgiving and recently became very ill with stomach problems, diarreha, chronic fatigue, depression, etc. It was almost like having Grave’s symptoms again without the excess pent up energy! I decided to go on a gluten-free diet after researching and seem to be doing somewhat better. That of course was after all the tests were run, I had a colinoscopy and upper endoscopy after numerous blood tests and Dr. visits. All were negative for Crohn’s disease as well as Celiac’s etc. The Dr. of course tagged me with IBS and gave me Bentyl to take which helps a bit, but daily life can be difficult at best. My diet is down to chicken, fish, fruits and vegetables. While it is a very healthy diet it does get boring, the only upside is that the normal weight gain that most post rai patients experience is not present! Always a silver lining? Ha.
Would love to hear from anyone that has been where I’m at!
    Thanks,
    Bridget

    Hiyas Bridget!

I’m a new poster here, one of those who had my RAI hmmm.. 7 years ago?) I too had problems with foods for awhile.. I thought it was related to thryoid/treatment, etc…etc.. Finally got to a ‘happy thryoid/happy Me level about about a year and a half (or was it 2?) post RAI.

Digestive track, however it turned out it was Gallstones.. 2 years ago, I had emergency gallbladder removal and I had pancreatis too. (so it had been happening awhile. ) If you notice certain foods trigger- High fat content foods. (dairy and meat fats especially) Yellow cheese, ham, (sigh, I miss those. lol) also spicy foods or alchol…. you may want to get gallbladder checked.

I would get strong stomach pains/ cramps.. (really strong, stomach got hard/bloated feeling-last an hour or two, followed by a bruised feeling for a day or two) I’d also get sort of easily upset tummy feeling/diarreah.. I used to keep alot of altoids, (peppermint oil-ahh soothing) and chamoile tea around alot. (haven’t really had it since the surgery)

What made me go in? Once finally the bruised tummy feeling didn’t go away after 2 or 3 days like it usually did.. (lasted a week) and I went into the emergency room. (it was a weekend) and dang, if they didn’t keep me there…

DOING much better now.. can actually eat more variety, and I’ve learned what works (I’ve learned that oatmeal in the morning is great base for the rest of the day. if you like milk with it go w/ skim or 1% or try those GREAT oatmeal bars)

I had to learn the hard way (prior surgery) that basically a low fat/high fiber diet helped. Post surgery, dietican was ‘reviewing’ my ‘new’ diet-hubby and I looked at each other and went. “Same as usual” Thank heaven’s for all those lovely Fat Free foods they have now. lol. (the cheese works-IF you add it to stuff.. like soup-or melt it into something. lol)

Grin, now, If I could just manage to avoid chocolate-maybe I’d get some of this weight back off! (bad year, bad me)
