Elizabeth,
I was diagnosed in Dec. and had the RAI – like you I think I had all the symtoms except weight loss. I didn’t know what was wrong with me except for the first time in my life I had all kinds of energy! I actually thought I must be getting healthier. Of course then I started getting the shakes and my heart started racing all the time so I knew something weird was going on. They still don’t have me stablized yet so I can’t really give you any advice except to keep getting on here because it does help to know you’re not the only one with GD.I was diagnosed in March and had RAI in late April – like you I think I had all the symtoms and lost 5 lbs in 3 days. I was running a fever of 103.5 for 4 days when I decided to go in and get checked I
didn’t know what was wrong with me. I had also noticed a lump in my neck but thought it was due to the cold I had.
The doctor on call sent me to get blood taken and I also had an ultrasound done. Three days later I got a phone call from my doc telling me to come see her. My TSH was .01 and T-4 77. They put me on beta-blockers for a few weeks and meds to reduce my T-4. I had a reallly bad allergic reaction to the meds. I was then sent to see an Endo how right away wanted to do RAI. I felt not to bad then after 5 months I went extremly hypo and had eye problems. I then was put on synthroid and the increased the dosage till my TSH came down. Two weeks ago the cut my meds from .75 to half. I’m starting to feel better now… a bit more energy then I’ve felt in a few months but still having some problems with my eyes bulging.
My endo told me that I still have some thyroid function and that I may I maybe able to come off the sythroid someday. My eyes he tells me should go back if I continue to stabalize on my own. If not he wants me to get radionation done on the orbits. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that all will go well.
I wish you luck and hope you feel better soon.

I was diagnosed with Graves Disease only 2 weeks ago. I have never been sick in all of my life , and I’m only 20 years old. I really appreciate this web page and all it has done for my husband and me. It has really helped us to better understand this. I have been put on a beta blocker. That’s it so far, they are trying to figure out how to best treat it. I wish they would hurry up because I feel awful, and am ready to feel like a human being again. I think I have been unlucky enough to exprience every symptom but the weight loss. I know I have been driving my family crazy , but you know what I know very soon we are all going to be laughing and joking about this. So keep you head up and smile.
Thanks,
Elizabeth

Just remember, Elizabeth, we have all been there. Tkae your time in deciding the treatment that you are going to take. I went to my dr. on Thurs and he met my Dad at a triathalon on Sat and wanted to know what I had decided (he was kidding)! I hadn’t at that point but did a day later. Weigh all of the options and talk it over with your husband. Spouses can be such good support! E-mail me if you want to talk some more.
