    Hi guys,

I was just wondering if anyone knew of any dating sites for Graves or TED patients.
I’m african american and I find it difficult to find or meet anyone since this “distraction”.

Just seems like it would be much easier to date someone who “knows” or even has the same changes facial features.

    thanks,

Personally in my opinion, I would stay off those sites. There have been too many negative feedbacks. If you go to review a site, you can read about all the bad experiences people have.

I don’t believe there is a site for Graves’ patients. It also can be dangerous because you don’t know who you are talking with or who you will meet. Please be careful!

Hello – Agree with Karen that you need to be careful with online sites.

I’m not aware of one specific to Graves’, either…and this would actually be somewhat challenging to set up logistically, since women far outnumber men when it comes to Graves’! I’ve seen stats ranging from 4x more women to 8-9x more women. Based on the participation here and on the Foundation’s Facebook page, I’m guessing the latter is closer to the mark.

If you check out this Q&A from Boston.com about chronic illness in general and dating, you can see that it generated 600+ comments, so this is definitely an issue that affects a lot of people.

Didn’t mean to discourage you, I am so sorry.

You can make up a profile free on Plenty of Fish.

There is match.com but I think you have to pay for that.

Also, match owns okcupid which is free to join.

I just know people who have been scammed for money by men and women, players, and predators on those sites. Some people make up their profiles, post pictures of other people than themselves.

I have heard men in the prisons have access to the internet and also make up the profiles on free sites.

But by all means, if you want to try, no harm in just typing out a profile and seeing what is out there. My sister-in-law met a man and got married. I guess you never know, but that’s a rare case.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

My brother-in-law met his future wife through the old style matching service when people went to offices to watch videos. I do not know if they still exist, but I think they could weed out the strange characters.

I wonder about support groups because similar issues mean chance for greater understanding, yes or no?

My sister met her partner long after being diagnosed with Graves online. However, they met on an Animal Rescue website, not a dating site. Wasn’t that what our grandmothers always told us? Go to a place with interesting people and you will meet someone interesting.

No one I know has successfully met the person of their dreams on match.com or their ilk. None of them have actually tried either, to my knowledge. I hope you find your “spot” soon.
