Deb,
I don’t know if it’s related to the Graves. Have you had an EEG with a seizure recorded so they know where your’s are coming from? My daughter has epilepsy and has never been on medication as her’s come to far apart for us to be putting her through the unpleasantness of the drugs. Her’s are left frontal temperal and apparently knowing where they originate can help know whether an episode is more likely to be epilepsy or something else. My daughter also has tremors that her neurologist says aren’t seizures but they do like that. I’d get it checked out if you can. Losing time or spacing out can be a seizure in some people.ewmb
I’ve never seen anything that connected the two in a conventional sense, but the fact is that hyperthyroidism affects every single cell in the body, and perhaps, in YOU, that’s a weakness it’s exploited. Definitely a good discussion for you and your doctor to have, because you want to treat this effectively and get it RESOLVED.
I also had a few seizures during my graves journey. I have never had a seizure in my life until my levels were off track. I was never diagnosed with epilepsy because the dr’s/ emergecy room never actually seen or recorded me having one. I had EEG after EEG and they all came back normal. I had an ambulatory EEG and that was normal so I would just be careful because you never know. You don’t wanna put your life or anyone elses at risk when your behind the wheel. Seizures are very scary and I was in denial about experiencing them. I was embarrassed and ignored them. I was "lucky" not to have a gran mal, I had complex partial seizures…. but was still all whacked out. Hope you figure it all out ” title=”Smile” /> good luck….
Ps. since i have been on synthroid and my levels have been closer to normal range I have not experienced any of those episodes. I hope they can find a connection with this if any…..I also had RAI done May 12 and have been on synthroid 1 month and 1 week. FEEEEEEL SOOO GOOOD THESE DAYS ” title=”Smile” />

Me again:
I had a grand mal seizure last August….it was during a period where I was really going through a bad spell with my insomnia. I was standing in front of a store with my hubby and a girlfriend looking at mobiles, when one of the objects on the mobile started jumping all around the store window. I asked my hubby and friend if they noticed this, and of course they said "Ahh no Deb". I told them I didn’t feel well, that I felt very nausiated and light headed and so they sat me down on a outside bench where I proceeded to go into a full grand mal seizure. I was medivaced back home, diagnozed with epilepsy, lost my drivers licence, and put on anti-convulsants meds. I lasted about 3 months on those things, weaned myself off, and haven’t had a seizure since. I have my driver’s licence re-instated as well.
My concern is that last week while out shopping again, I started to leave the store we were in and all of a sudden didn’t know where I was, I was totally disoriented……I didn’t feel sick or anything, just had no idea where we were, and I’ve been in this store hundreds of times. It lasted maybe 10 seconds, and then I was ok. Once I got my bearings, I was ok.
I will mention this "spell" to my doctor on Thursday when I go in. Do any of you think this could be Grave’s Disease related? I’ve had these weird spells from time to time over my lifetime. I’m just newly diagnosed (2 weeks ago, had RAI 2 weeks ago), and waiting for my first blood draw in the middle of September Despite having been sick all of my life and treated for depression and anxiety, I was never tested for hyperthyroidism till just last month. My new doctor just about fell off her chair when she saw my blood results. She said well this explains so many things for you Debbie, and she didn’t understand why it wasn’t detected earlier.
I forgot to mention this in my other posts……….
Deb
