I wish you well during the next few months. Had my RAI on May 8th and am now on levoxyl and feeling a lot better than I did. It can be a real up and down journey but keep thinking good thoughts.

Its now 24 hours since my RAI and I’m still a little shaky. After 2 1/2 years on methimazole, I decided to finally have my thyroid "nuked" Interestingly, my pre-RAI uptake test results were higher than before I started the medication. All I can say, is that my Husband deserves a sainthood. For the three weeks prior to the RAI, I did not take any medications per doctor’s order. ALL of my favorite Graves’ symptoms returned: hand tremors, pounding heart, swelling ankles, and edgy. Now, I am going through the post treatment reactions. AND, due to my TED, I have a five week course of prednisone. To put it mildly, I am not quite myself at the moment. I know that I have made the right decision, however, I’m just not looking forward to next few weeks and months.
This forum has been a great source of information and comfort. It’s always good to know that there are others who understand. Any words of wisdom for the next few weeks would be appreciated.
It’s going to be tough to know how you’ll feel on any given day for the next few weeks, so my advice would be to book yourself very gently during this time. Leave yourself windows for rest, in case you need it, so that you don’t feel as if you’re "neglecting" your commitments.
Not a lot is likely to change in a BIG hurry, but things should get progressively better.
I had EXTREME abdominal pain for a few days, and no one could ever get to the bottom of it, so I’ve always blamed it on the rapid drop in my thyroid hormone levels (though that may have had nothing to do with it). Whatever happens to you in the next few weeks, if some symptom is extreme, check with the doctor (general practitioner or endo, whomever you can reach). Don’t presume "it’ll pass," because you just can’t say that without a professional exam.
Wishing you luck! Let us know how it’s going!
I had my RAI 7 days ago…I also had to go 3-4 weeks without meds. Although that actually went really well..lol
BUT…I’m having a lot of symptoms this week. I don’t feel better right now..in fact I feel worse.
On the POSITIVE side…I KNOW that I will get better over time. I know that I will never have to go through what I’ve been through. I feel like I’m not walking on quick sand anymore…I’m just walking in a desert now…wanting to find some water…hahahahahhahaha
Hang in there…you will get through it. We all are getting through it or already have.
Get lots of sleep and drink TONS of fluids;)
Thanks for the support. I actually had a fairly good day but overdid a bit. Other than some tiredness, my main symptom seems to be an elevated heart rate. Next week should be interesting as I start back to work. I am accustomed to working 10-12 hour days in a fairly stressful job. This may be the time for me to start heeding my Husband’s advice to slow down and pace myself.
