Today I went to the doctor with my list of symptoms prepared to hear that this was all in my head….don’t you feel like after you’ve seen so many specialists you start to lose your mind?
The doctor listened to me as I detailed my symptoms and fill him in on the daily exhaustion that have become my life. After I finished he asked me for my driver’s license. I gave it to him a bit confused, and waited while he made obvious visual comparisons. I renewed my license last year, and the “changes” that i’ve been experiencing (weight gain, fatigue, nausea, etc) were obvious when he saw how I used to look. Kind of an impressive technique since I knew that I obviously wasn’t feeling like “myself”, and someone (outside of my immediate circle) was able to understand the toll that this has taken on me physically.
We then went over my labs from the last doctor. I had only seen up until March, so my April results were sent to his office directly before I had a chance to analyze.
Upon seeing the results, I started to getting upset, because while the endo in Dallas has been assuring me that everything is fine and I needed to “wait it out”, my labs from the fax were still abnormal. My T4 was abnormally high, and the T3 was abnormally low. TSH just hit the low range of being normal.
Long story short, this doctor today took his time and was really thorough today. He took 12 vials of blood at the lab to run all of my thyroid panels, metabolic panel, cortisol levels, adrenal levels, etc.
While I don’t have a distinct answer, the fact that someone took the time to be thorough made me feel like there may be hope down the road. He suggested that we check the T3 levels because I may need to switch to armour (I’m currently taking 100mcg of synthroid each day) if my body isn’t converting it on it’s own.
He also is really supportive of holistic practices, including diet and overall wellness practices. He said that one of the best things that anyone can do (and he recommends to all his patients) is to stop eating all wheat. I kind of dropped my jaw at this point. I think that I can do this, but it is going to take some patience and research. Does anyone else go by certain dietary guidelines that they feel are helpful?
Hoping I will have my labs back soon with more information!
Hi Allie,
If you get a chance, check out the book called “Wheat Belly”. The author is a cardiologist- he links the eating of wheat to many of our problems. After reading Wheat belly, I’ve been trying to eat similar to the Paleo diet, which is getting back to eating Whole foods and getting away from the processed stuff.

That’s the book that my doctor has been reading!
I’m going to try to order it on amazon and start making some slow changes to see if that helps
Hi!!
Glad you are feeling better today!!
I have been following the anti inflammatory diet and have found a lot of relief. No gluten no dairy. Basically chicken turkey fish veggies and fruits.
I bought a book and have found that following this diet helps my eyes so much!
Good luck on your journey!!
Diane
