Hi Barb – You might check out Shirley’s recent post in the “Are My Watery Eyes Due To Graves’…” thread, as she had one suggestion on eye taping, plus another option that she was trying out.

On the Restasis, I heard a presentation from an eye doctor that it can actually take several weeks before you really start to see a benefit. I know of some patients who haven’t had great results with Restasis, but we have one member in our local support group who has had success and is really happy with it. So this seems to be a very individual decision.

    Take care!

Barb, I use Mepitac tape. It does not hurt at all, even when over eyelashes. But it is expensive. You will find it when you google it. It is a hard decision for me whether to gob ointment on at night, for if I do that, the tape does not adhere because of the ointment. I am looking for a cheaper tape, and will report right away if I find one.

I’ve had Graves disease for four years now and I’ve definitely had my share of painful sleeping experiences.
If you want a cheaper alternative to moisture chamber products, you could use saran wrap like I’ve done for the past few years.
Initially, I started out dabbing a small amount of petroleum gel around my face and placing a small piece of saran wrap around the eyes when I go to sleep. But I’ve found the gel to be sticky and annoying, so now I just put the saran wrap on my face without the gel and it still sticks.
This has worked surprisingly well for me. The only irritating part is that on humid nights, the saran wrap traps so much moisture that your face feels wet.
But overall, my eyes are well moisturized.
    I hope this helps!
