I was told that my eye pressure is high and need to see a specialist and it may be glaucoma (25 in 1 eye, 23 in the other). I have Graves TED. Could the increased pressure be due to Graves or not? Is Glaucoma connected to Graves?

I’m not sure, but please do let us know what the doctor says. It would seem logical that TED could cause increased eye pressure. I haven’t heard of glaucoma being connected to Graves’ Disease or TED specifically.

I also had very high eye pressure and because of that the vision in my right eye was limited because of the pressure on my optic nerve. Had an emergency decompression by an otolaryngologist which was successful. Also was placed on Xalatan drops to prevent Glaucoma but was later placed on Timolol which is less costly. Hope this helps.

erobinson219 – Sorry, I know that I replied to this post a while back, but it seems to have gone "poof"! Weird. I picked up a book on Graves’ Orbitopathy at last year’s conference, and it states that some Graves’ patients with eye disease *do* tend to have elevated pressure. The book cited one study that 60+ percent of Graves’ Eye Disease patients had some level of increased pressure, especially when gazing upward. There are some very specific tests that can help diagnose Glaucoma, so this is likely why you have been referred to a specialist.

    Hope this helps!
