Anyone have eye lid surgery where the lids were sewn shut for a week? This will be my 3rd surgery on my lids.

I had decompression a week ago and I have such mixed feelings about having it done. In just a week my eyes have gone down some, but they are so crossed downward that I can only look down otherwise I have terrible back and neck pain as I have to arch my head back so far to actually look at anyone. I am scheduled for my follow up in 5 weeks and hoping that the eyes can be alligned well. I am wondering of those of you that have had decompression-were you in remission before having it done? Also, did anyone have issues with significant mis-allignment. It has been very nice to see the recent posts regarding eye surgery/TED. I have followed the bulletin for years and don’t see much about TED successes. Thanks everyone!

Several of the facilitators and support group leaders have had decompression surgeries. Many of them still feel that they look different than they did before the disease started, but I can tell you from meeting them all personally, that most of them have eyes that look completely normal to the rest of us.

Sometimes it is necessary for strabismus surgeries to realign the muscles of the eyes after decompression. This type of surgery, though, is significantly more benign (from the descriptions Jake has written) than the decompression. You might be able to see Jake’s descriptions from some old posts called “Eye Surgery 101” — or something close.

I know you are disappointed right now, but I hope you will keep your spirits up. You are closing in on having eyes that work together better. I hope you see good results, and soon.

    Hugs,
    Bobbi — NGDF Online Facilitator
