I was diagnosed 3 months ago with Graves. 4 weeks ago I did my RAI. All of a sudden for last 3 days I have been in a constant and extreme anxiety and panic attack. It’s so severe that I have moments where I am completely out of control and screaming and shaking. I saw endocrine doc today and was given methimazole 10mg 3 x day. Was also advised to take 60 mg prednisone a day. A few questions if someone has advise.
Won’t prednisone make the anxiety worse? It makes me breathe fast and my heart race.
Will taking Xanax help with the state I am in? I am prescribed 1 mg 3 x day

    Thank you for your help.

Hello and welcome – We are fellow patients here, not doctors, so we can’t give advice on dosing or medications.

However, hopefully, those who have taken steroids can chime in with their personal experiences as to whether the meds made anxiety worse.

Anxiety can come from having thyroid levels out of balance or from an underlying anxiety disorder – or both.

If you don’t see some relief soon, definitely contact your doctor’s office again for further direction.

Take care – and keep us posted!
