Hello, sorry to bother with this, but I used the search engine extensively, and cannot find the thread with the comments about ease of reading various e readers. Can one of the facilitators help me with this?

Hi Shirley – Good question…I can’t find it, either! Perhaps it was accidentally removed as SPAM. I have a question into our tech expert to see if he can retrieve it from the old board.

In the meantime, I did get a Kindle and am really enjoying it. I jacked up the font size about 3 sizes, and I’m good to go! As I recall, the biggest issues that people had were with the glare on the color readers; the reviews of the e-ink readers were generally very positive.

Darn! I know there were at least 6 or 8 posts, and as i recall, perhaps incorrectly, that the Nook was preferred by TED patients. And this whole post was about e tablets and TED patients.
Glad you like your Kindle. My curiosity is still there, though. I ALMOST remember who began the thread but I can’t.
Thanks for trying to find it.

Hi Shirley – Turns out the thread is still there…

We’re checking to see why it’s not showing up in the search function for “Kindle”, “Nook”, etc..

    Hope this helps!

The main issue for us with the ereaders, Shirley, is whether they are backlit or not. Some (the iPad type of thing) are backlit, like the computer screen. This is thought to be harder on the eyes than a reader like the Nook or Kindle which requires an external source of light. So those of us with the eye issues often find it harder to use the iPad as an e-reader. Also, backlit screens are sometimes difficult to see in sunlight. The Kindles and (I think) Nooks work just fine out-of-doors.

If you are trying to find an ereader to buy, it would be better to look at both Nooks and Kindles, and figure out which one has the features you prefer. I love my Kindle, but I didn’t comparison shop — my husband gave it to me for an anniversary present.

For pure reading, the old fashioned Kindle is like reading textured paper. I bought the Nook Color (not Nook color tablet) about one year ago and I find it easy to read, but klunky compared to an iPad. I’ve heard some people turn down the brightness on the iPad to make reading easier. The biggest eye issue I have is very active floaters, and the Nook is easier to read than a laptop or desktop.
