Some background first.
At my annual physical with my PCP, and with subsequent tests and visits, I was diagnosed with Graves ( which I am convinced I got from my daughter – lol) and with an inguinal hernia which needed to be surgically repaired.
So, immediately I started on the Methimazole routine which, like for many others here, provided me the official Graves rollercoaster ride from hyper to hypo , back up, back down, etc. I was a very lucky one though as I did not endure any of the common symptoms at either end of the spectrum.
And unfortunately, even though I met with a surgeon for the hernia, I could not schedule the surgery until my thyroid decided to behave itself and become somewhat stable.
Well that day finally arrived two weeks ago – my endo gave me clearance to schedule the surgery and after prodding him only 3 times he finally communicated with the surgeon and my surgery is now scheduled for this Friday !
So after 6 months, the tunnel does have 2 lights that I can now see – the end of the pain from the hernia(along with the reduced amount of things I can do because of it) and a semi well-behaved thyroid.
I enjoy reading – and occasionally commenting on – the posts here and I certainly will keep active here as I know that my travels with Graves has just begun – it just is cooperating a little bit right now and for that I am extremely grateful.
