We can’t evaluate anything medically, but I can tell you that the dose you had was about one and a half times the dose I was initially given in 1999, and it didn’t do the job, but I think my endo mentioned a dose closer to yours, as one he would have recommended (unfortunately, he did not discuss it with my radiologist ahead of time). An evaluation of your thyroid status (the way it "feels" and "looks") might well have taken into consideration your past treatment, so "normal" would have a bit of a flexible definition at that point.
Hey Sky, thanks for postingo my question.
This is the reason I hate looking up anything on the net! lol I have been looking more since I posted my question. There is SO many different places where they say different things. That is why I LOVE this site! lol Its so hard to understand alot of this, & when you research online, things get fuzzy with the info! Depending on what site I go to, Its from 10-20mCi from some sites to 100mCi & up on others! Its crazy!
I guess I was just hoping that explained alot of things, like about my thyroid looking normal in app from my ct scan. There shouldnt be one..lol I guess it could be a mistake…Kind of like my dr I see for kidney stones having my report saying I HAVE kidney disease. He never told me & my labs look good. Maybe just another mistake ;O)
Thanks again for the post! I will talk to the dr I am seeing on friday!Hey there all!
I just got my records from my RAI! At the time of it all, I never asked anything. He said this does is going to kill the thyroid & I will take a replacement the rest of my life. OK, got it! BUT, as I look at the dose to ‘kill’ my thyroid, its no where near what I have read given to actually kill it. Is this a low does? He retired about a year after having it done so I cant see him. Family dr has been ‘taking care of it’ since. On a CT scan for my enlarged lymph nodes on my neck in ’06, it states "Thyroid & parotic glands are normal in appearance" 7 years after RAI! I heard some can ‘grow’ again, but if it looked normal…does this mean it never worked at all & could that be why my TSH labs have been showing hypERthyroid since ’02? (Everything but the TSH have been mostly in normal range since ’02 when tested). HOPEFULLY the new person I see friday will help. Its a free clinic. I cant see an endo here without a referral & my dr wont give me one. Says he will take care of it (by not doing anything). LOL
So here is what the records say. Does anyone know if this is a dose large enough to kill my thyroid? Thanks so much!9/02/98 – Thyroid Uptake & Img.

1. Successful hyperthyroid therapyKinda new to all this GD stuff – let me tell you, this board has been a life-saver, not to mention keeping me sane. Was diagnosed in June 09, and had RAI treament 4 days later. The dosage they gave me was 12.5, and when I saw the endo in Sept 09 he said it had been successful – was mildly hypo by that time. And have been on synthroid ever since – 100mcg was too much, and I became hyper again in May 10, lowered the dosage to 75 mcg and so far….looking good. TSH at .9….but optimal spot is 2…so if levels are still holding by Dec we will begin to ‘tweak’ a bit….am getting there – finally! So I don’t know if it helps to know that this particular dosage of RAI did what it was supposed to do. Am 57 years young (older on some days though lol)… Keep hanging in there…speak up for what you feel you need, don’t be shy. It’s your body and you know it better than any professional. And have faith that things will get better…. ” title=”Razz” />
My Dr. said 20 mci would kill the thyroid then when I go in to take the pill the tech goes " No this will only kill part of it" WTF. It really is not regulated. I have read where people go hypo after 10 mci and Hyper after 2 doses o 30 mci. Go figure.
