My grandfather had Graves’ disease in the 1940’s.
He had surgery to remove parts of both sides of
his thyroid. He does not take any thyroid
replacement drug like Synthroid or anything. I
thought that surgery made most people hypo and there
fore he should have been taking something? Am I
    wrong in assuming this????

    Confused

    Hi Kristy
I would guess they took out an ideal amount of thyroid if your grandfather is not having syptoms. I think the general idea is to leave just enough to make you euthyroid. I just didnt think it was possible to get it right. It looks like he is very lucky indeed.
