Actually, fatigue IS one of the symptoms of Graves – I think it was the most distressing one for me, I think. Fatigue is a hallmark of hypothyroidism, as well, but the marked increase in metabolic activity caused by Graves’ takes a toll on your body and can leave you feeling exhausted. You may develop the other symptoms later on, or perhaps you will remain subclinical (low TSH, normal thyroid hormone levels, few overt symptoms). I did, and I have never really progressed to overt Graves. It took a while, but now I feel great again, and my TSH levels have returned to normal. I lost weight initially, but then I gained all that back and then some; several people on the board has also reported unexpected weight gain during the course of their illness. It doesn’t seem fair! Hang in there – you really will feel better again. Sorry you developed it during your senior year, but I hope you will be feeling better soon. I certainly can’t say that I feel lucky to have had this disease, but I must say that it has taught me a lot about ordering my priorities, taking better care of myself, and appreciating little things more. Let us know how you are doing–

I am Fifteen years old. I have always been lazy, tired etc.
My doctor reccommed I take a thyroid exam a couple days ago.
She thinks I have Graves Disease. My TSH levels are .04, but I am not
displaying any of the symptoms—this disease has yet to progress.
I took the blood test for the antibody Monday, and the results should
be in Friday. Please someone tell me, if I do have Graves Disease, as
my thyroid levels indicate why am I so tired. I’ve gained 20lbs in the
last few months. I was positive I had hypothyroidism.

This is my senior year in high school. It was supposed to be great.
I think it can still be wonderful, but I need to know what to expect.
Do you have any idea, as to why I’m still so tired, but my doctor thinks
I have Graves Disease? Thank You

    Hi,
I’m a 39 year old male with what my doctor told me is Graves disease. I had several symtoms I was concerned with that alarmed me that something was wrong. Shortness of breath, anxiety, trembling in my hands and sometimes arms, irritated eyes, increased heart rate, weight los, increased appetite, fatigue and weakness. The initial blood test had TSH of 0.0 and T4 as 3.68. It was also accompanied with anemia. The final test is on the 21st of Jan done at Nuclear medicine with the radioiodine. I’m sure it’s Graves (my mom had it too) and was wondering on the average how long it takes to recover. I understand that once under control I should feel like a new person. I would like to understand the day to day dealings with this and what to expect. I appreciate any input you may have. Thank you.

I’m no doctor but I wonder why so many doctors are so quick to prescribe the radioactive iodine. Especially to you who has already some eye symptons. RAI has been proven to potentially cause worsening of the eye problems it is called thyroid eye disease.

I am new to this BB, I was diagnosed one 12/23 with Graves. I was glad that it was something I could put a name to and not that I was going crazy. I think that I must have a lighter case of it because my eyes aren’t affected either. I have enjoyed reading all the messages and decided to log on and join the chat last night. The only problem was that I didn’t know how to put a message in and join everyone apparently I must have been doing something wrong, maybe by next week I will work out my computer ignorance.

The doctors are quick to prescribe RAI due to the fact it is cheaper, less work for them(need many followups and blood tests with PTU) and insurance companies like this idea best.

    Hope this answers the question.

    Regards,
    JAN
