    Just for your information:

I belong to a thyroid literary site called "Dear Thyroid". They pose some very interesting questions that you are welcome to answer or write about. There was a challenge today for us to ask this question:

"Have you ever considered writing a post about thyroid disease and how ‘sexy’ it is?"

Sounds like a trick question , but it is not. There are disease’s that are considered ‘sexy’ because they appeal to people. The thyroid condition does not appeal to anyone. That is my opinion. What is yours? You can see what others think and say about it on Dearthyroid.org dearthyroid on facebook or tweeter. It has people talking about this disease and that is a start.

Believe it or not, Goiters used to be consider beautiful. Look at some of the Old Masters in painting. Eye Disease was pretty revered as well. Susan Sarandon was known for her dramatic eyes.

On a similar note: Have you ever written a letter to your thyroid, or Graves’ Disease? We did that as an exercise in a Conference in Florida. It was quite profound. Spouses and friends wrote to the Graves’ Disease of their loved ones.

Over the years I have written a few. They usually take the form of a memorandum, so I don’t have to say "Dear" Graves’. I wrote it a post card from San Diego last year. These best one was fairly long, reminding it that I knew it didn’t necessarily choose to be in this particular body, and I wasn’t exactly thrilled to be the host. But, please be on notice that I was going to do everything possible to have a normal, happy and healthy life, and that in order to do that, my Graves’ could be assured that I would take good care of it, so that it could just rest, and not have to aggravate me for attention. The whole experience was sad, poignant, angry and funny.

Hi Marpo – We are very glad to have you! Thank you for sharing Dear Thyroid and so much of you with us.

Nancy – That is fascinating! I love that so many people got involved in your endeavor. What was their experience? Did they talk about how they felt after wriing their letters? Do you mind me asking?

Dear Thyroid’s core identity is thyroid patients writing letters to their thyroids as well as families writing letters to their loved one’s thyroids, among other literary/outreach/awareness goals.

I love that you’ve written postcards to your thyroid. Some of our members have written haiku’s (thykus), poems (thyetry) and songs (Thyongs). Maybe one day you’ll consider submitting a Dear Thyroid letter to us. We’d love to see what you have to say to your gland.

PS: Having Graves disease, I am so happy that we have the Graves Disease Foundation!

    Take Care. Thanks again, Marpo.

……sexy? Calling graves disease "sexy" is like calling vomiting "fun".

    That is my tweet:)

Dear Thyroid – Thank you for starting me on a journey to wellness. You have taught me the importance of being well – which is different than being healthy. You have taught me how to rebuild my health, my career, my social supports. Or at least I am in process with those lessons. Sexy – hmmm. No, but alive. More alive than ever. . . .

Hi Marpo, thank you for all your initial support when I first joined this site. I am looking forward to being in the cold phase, and having this eye situation as resolved as it can get.

About ten years ago we had a limeric contest to see who could write the funniest limeric on Graves’ disease. We had over 40 entries and the answers were a hoot. Nancy we ought to think about this again. Last time I supplied the prize.

Perhaps Nancy can supply one of those fancy bracelets.

Lets see If I can come up with one off the top of my head to kick us off.

There was once a man from Staves
    With Graves’ he was stunned
    He said with chagrin
    There goes my weight again
and with ATDs he did shuck it

Wow that was really bad. REALLY bad

Couldn’t get the word "limerick" out of my mind, what IS it about that form of poetry??? <img decoding=” title=”Very Happy” />

    Here’s one for y’all:

A person who has Graves’ can seem revved up,
They’ll be hot, anxious and messed up.
    Once they find GDF,
    And choose their treatment pref,
They come back to give the next guy a heads up!

    LOL@Jake!!

Ski– you got some talent there!

    Here’s mine:

There once was a girl in Reno
Diagnosed with Grave’s by the Endo.
    At first skinny and mad,
    Now chunky and sad
At least she can still enjoy vino!

There was once a Certified Nurse-Midwife
Who had just entered her midlife
    her bone scan was rotten
    her social life, forgotten
And her thyroid kicked-in just past midnight
