I have not heard of that, not did I experience it. I am wondering how you know that there is no other situation that might contribute to your aches and pains of muscles and bones? If it continues, I suggest you check in with a rheumatologist, or have your primary care doc do some basic labs associated with those symptoms. I hope this whole situation resolves, goes away, so you do not have to pursue it at all!
ShirleyTwo thoughts:
First, if you are newly in the normal zone, and have started to exercise, you may be doing too much, too soon. We need to start out with baby steps because returning muscle is probably not as strong as the muscle lost while hyperthyroid.
Second, those of us with one autoimmune disease are slightly more likely than the normal population to develop a second autoimmune disease. Rheumatoid arthritis, for example, is autoimmune. Fibromyalgia may be, but not enough is known about it at this point in time.
In general, muscle/joint aches and pains are not associated with Graves patients who have removed their thyroids. Those patients on antithyroid drugs have a possibility of muscle/joint aches as a side effect of the medication.
I hope you are feeling much better soon.
Hello – In addition to the other suggestions, joint pain can be associated with hypOthyroidism. Is your doctor checking Free T3 and Free T4 levels in addition to TSH? I don’t know how far out from treatment you are, but TSH levels can sometimes take weeks or *months* to rebound. So early on in the process, it’s possible for FT3/FT4 levels to crash while TSH is finally “waking up”.
Hope you can get some answers soon – and some relief!
I was diagnosed January 2009 with Hyperthyroidism. Had RAI treatment in April same year. My first Endocrinologist did a poor job monitoring my levels after RAI treatment and I became hypothyroid. Gain 30 pounds and have been experiencing severe joint pain in my lower extremities as well as muscle fatigue for the past 8 months.
Hello,
I was just wondering if anyone out there after they have been treated for Graves Disease whether its done via RAI or Surgery still ever have any aching joints or muscles? My endo called me last week and my TSH is 1.06 which she said was in normal range but lately I ache and there isn’t anything else going on with me where I should have aches. Im only 33. Thank you for your feedback.
