Hi all, posting on behalf of my mom again. She had her second eye operated on this past week, successful surgery and her recovery has been amazing, no swelling or bruising after only a few days. Both eyes had emergency OD done to them after she started losing color in one of her eyes.

However, I noticed that her left eye is now cross-eyed, and she has told me that her double vision has gotten worse since the surgery (previously it only went into effect about a meter out, but now it’s much sooner).

I was just wondering if anybody else had had their double vision worsen or had become cross-eyed after OD surgery, and if they had strabismus surgery afterwards to help correct it, and how effective it was. Thanks

    Good day to you!

I’m sorry but I’ve got no experience nor knowledge on this topic. Just wanted to say hello and offer ya’ll some moral support.

Sounds like a call to the surgeon might be in order to answer your questions and put your minds perhaps at ease. In addition maybe you’ll get some input here as well. In the mean time keep yours and your mothers spirits as high as possible.

    Rootin’ for you guys!

    Peace and health to all,

    Boomer

Hello – Yes, double vision is a potential complication of orbital decompression surgery. Has your mom’s doctor given you any guidance on next steps?

Most of the members of this board who have had strabismus surgery to correct double vision have been pleased with the results. In the meantime, temporary fixes include using an eye patch over one eye (just be sure to rotate – and be careful when driving!) or using prisms that can either be stuck on to glasses or ground into an eyeglass prescription. Sometimes, for people with mild double vision, they can get single vision by looking at things from an angle, so that might be worth having your mom try out. Take care!

Thanks guys. She had double vision prior to the OD surgery, but now it looks like it’s worse after the surgery. She’s meeting with the doctor tomorrow.

I was just wondering if anybody else on the board became cross-eyed after OD surgery, and how successful strabismus surgery was at correcting that.
