my TSH level can go down with reduced synthroid. it bounces around like crazy. Had radioactive iodine for Graves in 2003 and it is still up and down. T3T4 levels are within normal range. Very disconcerting. Any ideas?

I have my TSH levels checked every 2 mths as the fluctuate dramatically. Monday I had my lab and got a call from my doctor on Tuesday saying my levels were 8.52, up from 0.90, and said he wanted me to get retested. So I get a call on Wednesday saying my TSH is now 5.02. ?? He called the lab and they stand behind the reading. I have never been above a 4.18 in 18 yrs and I feel so healthy. Is this possible?

Do both of you take your replacement hormone pill at least an hour before eating in the morning so that there aren’t issues with some of it not being absorbed properly? Some foods and vitamins can be problematic, especially iron and antacids. I believe oatmeal is another. If you can take vitamins and other meds several hours later you are probably safe.

Also, are you certain that you’re not forgetting to take the pill some days? That’s very easy to do. If this is a possibility, then I suggest you get a pill box. That way you can tell if you’ve taken it because when you have, the pill will be gone.

Those are some common reasons for fluctuating levels.

You might need more iodine in your diet.Watch over the TSH like a hawk.
